Chinese cosmetics booming in South Korea with exports surging by 190%

China's exports of cosmetics to South Korea have seen a significant year-on-year increase. Data shows that in the first eight months of 2023, the export value of Chinese cosmetics to South Korea has risen by approximately 190% compared to the same period last year.

According to reports, South Korean consumers have reduced their spending on cosmetics this year due to rising prices. Compared to high-end cosmetics, consumers prefer to buy cost-effective mid-to-low-priced cosmetics. It is worth mentioning that the inherent advantages of Chinese cosmetics, as well as the recent popularity of Chinese cross-border e-commerce platforms in South Korea, are also favorable factors for Chinese cosmetics to enter the South Korean market.

In South Korea, there are beauty bloggers who say, "I can't do my makeup without concealer from China." A complete set of lip mud products from Chinese cosmetics brands also prominently appears in South Korean celebrity makeup rooms. On Japanese social media, "Chinese-style makeup" has become a popular topic.

According to reports, driven by the trend of "Chinese trend", popular Chinese cosmetics brands have also entered the Japanese market.

In recent years, the popularity of Chinese period dramas in Japan has contributed to the promotion of Chinese makeup and beauty trends to some extent. After many Japanese female viewers became fans of Chinese actresses like Sun Li and Zhou Xun, they started to try out "Chinese-style makeup". Some Chinese cosmetics brands seized the opportunity and collaborated with well-known Japanese beauty bloggers to create tutorial videos on"Chinese-style makeup", introducing their own products and the characteristics of Oriental beauty, which sparked a trend of"Chinese-style makeup". In the past few years, there has been an increase in Chinese cosmetics counters in Tokyo department stores.

With the increasing presence of Chinese cosmetics on the dressing tables of beauty bloggers, many domestic beauty brands have seized the opportunity and expanded into overseas markets. In recent years, domestic beauty brands such as into you, colorkey, Flower Knows, and Perfect Diary have embarked on the path of going global.

According to the Nihon Keizai Shimbun, many consumers used to have negative impressions of Chinese cosmetics, such as poor quality. However, the quality of Chinese products has been continuously improving recently. In addition, the creation of "Chinese-style makeup" has shaped the image of a "powerful and cool girl with a strong personality", which is refreshing for Japanese girls who emphasize natural and cute elements.

Therefore, "Chinese-style makeup" and cosmetics have quickly captured the attention of Japan's Generation Z young people. In social media discussions, the "list of Chinese makeup brands carefully selected by beauty bloggers" has become a reference standard for many Japanese girls when purchasing cosmetics.

According to the statistics of the Cosmetic Importers Association of Japan, the import of cosmetics from China to Japan in 2022 increased by nearly 44% compared to the previous year, reaching a total of 10.4 billion yen (approximately 508 million yuan), ranking third among the countries importing cosmetics to Japan. In the first half of this year, the import of cosmetics from China to Japan increased by about 45% to around 6.1 billion yen, ranking second; among them, the import value of eye makeup products reached 3.4 billion yen, with a year-on-year growth of over 51%, ranking first in terms of growth rate.

中国化妆品在韩国火了,出口额暴涨190%

中国化妆品对韩国出口额同比大幅上升。数据显示,今年前8个月,中国化妆品对韩国的出口额同比上涨大约190%。

据报道,受物价上涨影响,今年韩国消费者在化妆品上支出减少。相比高端化妆品,消费者更爱买性价比高的中低价化妆品。值得一提的是,中国化妆品的自身优势,以及最近在韩国走红的中国跨境电商平台,也是中国化妆品进入韩国市场的有利因素。

在韩国,有美妆博主表示::“我现在化妆不能没有来自中国的遮瑕膏。”中国彩妆品牌的全套唇泥产品也赫然出现在韩国明星化妆室。在日本社交媒体上,“中式妆容”成为热门话题。

据报道,在“中国潮”的带动之下,来自中国的畅销化妆品牌也登陆日本市场。

近年来日本热播的中国古装剧在一定程度上为中国彩妆和中国妆容的普及贡献了力量。不少日本女性观众喜欢上孙俪、周迅等演员后,开始尝试“中式妆容”。部分中国化妆品品牌抓住热度,通过与日本知名美妆博主合作,制作“中国妆”教程视频,介绍自家产品和东方美的特点,引发了“中国妆”热潮。最近几年,东京商场里的中国化妆品专柜多了起来。

随着美妆博主化妆台上出现的中国化妆品越来越多,很多国产美妆品牌纷纷抓住机遇,布局海外市场。近年来,into you、珂拉琪、花知晓、完美日记等国货美妆品牌们纷纷踏上出海的道路。

据《日本经济新闻》报道,曾有不少消费者对中国化妆品抱有“质量差”等负面印象。但最近,中国产品的质量不断提高。此外,“中式妆容”塑造了“个性强烈的酷女孩”的形象,对强调自然和可爱元素的日本女孩来说充满新鲜感。因此,中国妆容和化妆品迅速俘获了Z世代的日本年轻人,在社交媒体讨论中,“美容博主精心挑选的中国妆品牌榜单”成为很多日本女生购买化妆品的参考标准。

据日本进口化妆品协会统计,2022年日本从中国进口彩妆类产品较上年增长近44%,总额达104亿日元(约合人民币5.08亿元),在日本进口化妆品国家中排名第三。今年上半年,日本从中国进口彩妆类产品同比增长约45%至61亿日元,跃居第二;其中,眼妆类产品进口额达34亿日元,同比增长超过51%,增幅排名第一。
