As the new year begins, the transportation construction sites in Guangdong are in a striving posture of "start with a sprint". At the Shiziyang Channel in the Pearl River Estuary, the east and west anchorages of the Shiziyang grand bridge have already reached a height of 86.5 meters. During the Chinese New Year, over a hundred construction workers remained on-site, and after the holiday, all 1,600 workers returned to their posts, with 32 construction points now fully operational. On the Qingyuan-Huadu Expressway, more than 800 workers are on-site, and all 13 sections of the project have been activated. Meanwhile, the southern section of the Guangzhou-Shaoguan Expressway expansion project is in full swing, with over 1,300 workers and 720 pieces of equipment working tirelessly. The Changchun-Shenzhen Expressway's section from Heyuan to Huizhou is expected to open to traffic this year.
The world-class airport cluster in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is rapidly taking shape. The third-phase expansion of Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport is progressing swiftly. On January 23rd, the station of the comprehensive transportation center was completed, and the fourth runway was put into operation. The project is scheduled to be completed and operational by 2025, with an annual passenger throughput of 120 million. In 2024, the passenger throughput of the Greater Bay Area airport cluster has exceeded 214 million, marking a new milestone in scale.
The construction site of the Pearl River Delta Hub Airport Station on section 14 of the Guangzhou-Zhanjiang high-speed railway is also bustling. This station serves as a key intersection for several major railway lines, covering a construction area of approximately 344,000 square meters. During the Chinese New Year, 760 construction workers remained on-site, and a large number of workers returned to their posts on the eighth day of the Chinese New Year. Currently, 53% of the main structure of the northern throat section and 62% of the southern throat section have been completed. The project aims to finish the equipment room decoration and mechanical-electrical installation for the Guangzhou-Zhanjiang high-speed railway operation by June 30th and complete the main structure of the railway's main line by August 20th. The project involves 1.33 million cubic meters of structural concrete, 22,400 tons of steel, and 3.81 million cubic meters of earth and stone backfill. These staggering figures underscore Guangdong's determination to build a world-class transportation hub.
