From April 7th to 8th, a seminar on the high-quality development of cross-border e-commerce was held in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province. Concurrently, a series of events under the theme of "Cross-border E-commerce + Industrial Belt" was organized, with a special session in Shenzhen. Leading platforms such as SHEIN, Amazon, 1688, and Ozon unveiled their latest industrial belt investment policies for 2024. The event attracted over 200 high-quality industrial resources from 21 cities, with nearly 70 matchmaking booths set up to facilitate discussions between over 10 cross-border e-commerce platforms and nearly 100 sellers.

In 2023, Guangdong's total cross-border e-commerce volume reached 843.3 billion yuan, marking a 25.2% increase and significantly contributing to the province's foreign trade. In the first quarter of this year, the province's cross-border e-commerce volume exceeded 200 billion yuan, making a positive contribution to stabilizing the foundation of foreign trade.

"Cross-border e-commerce has become a significant force driving the growth of foreign trade. China's advantage in 'buying globally and selling globally' has led to its development and the industry has become a new driving force for foreign trade growth," said Yu Shaofen, Secretary-General of the Shantou Textile and Clothing Industry Association and Deputy Secretary-General of the Shantou E-commerce Industry Association.

In recent years, what new demands have overseas merchants proposed? How can product and service innovations meet these new demands? Xie Huina, Vice President of TWTH Logistics , expressed that overseas merchants now demand higher product quality, placing increased emphasis on product reliability, details, and performance. Additionally, there is a growing demand for customization, as overseas merchants hope products can better meet local market demands. Furthermore, environmental friendliness has become an important consideration, with overseas merchants increasingly focusing on the environmental performance and sustainability of products.

"Moreover, there is a growing demand for digitalization and intelligent services. Overseas merchants want to use digital and intelligent products to enhance production efficiency and reduce costs," emphasized Xie Huina.

"As a new business format, the cross-border e-commerce industry has evolved from rapid expansion to rapid self-iteration. In addition to companies promoting financial compliance, there is a need for ecological services within the industry to empower sellers on overseas third-party platforms and to help them comply with regulations and risk control systems in various countries," noted Wang Yali, founder of Xiaofeixiang,a company in Shenzhen committed to helping Chinese sellers go global. She pointed out that the traditional mode of foreign trade supervision was designed decades ago. However, cross-border e-commerce is essentially cross-border retail, with a very long industrial chain. Sellers need to focus on various aspects and nodes such as product development, procurement, sales, marketing, logistics, overseas warehousing, and customer service. This is something that traditional foreign trade companies, whether medium-sized or small micro-enterprises, cannot accomplish. Therefore, professional organizations are needed to conduct in-depth research and assist sellers in jointly studying policies and preparing in advance for risk control and strategic responses.

The relevant official of the Department of Commerce of Guangdong Province pointed out that there are 12 measures to ensure the stable development of cross-border e-commerce in Guangdong, including optimizing support policies, supporting the development of cross-border e-commerce parks, supporting the development of cross-border e-commerce enterprises, and building an industrial ecosystem for cross-border e-commerce. These measures aim to promote the continuous and stable development of cross-border e-commerce.
