The year 2023 marks the 70th anniversary of archaeological exploration in Guangzhou and the 40th anniversary of the discovery of Nanyue King Wen's Mausoleum.

On December 25th, the Nanyue King Museum organized a special exhibition to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the discovery of the Mausoleum of Nanyue King. Besides a comprehensive review of the 40-year history of discovering, protecting, and utilizing the cultural heritage of the Nanyue Kingdom, the exhibition also showcased advanced concepts and valuable experiences in historic conservation.

The exhibition is held in the Site of King's Tomb of the Museum and will run until February 25th, 2024. It presents unearthed cultural relics, documentary photographs, as well as various tools and utensils of the Nanyue Kingdom.

An immersive space exhibiting the desks, books, tools and other office supplies belonging to prestigious archaeologists Mai Yinghao and Huang Zhanyue was created at the exhibition site, while a dedicated counter is set up for porcelain pillows donated by the famous collector Yang Yongde and his wife, showcasing their contributions to the museum industry in Guangzhou.

Discovered on the Xianggangshan Mountain in Yuexiu District in 1983, the Mausoleum of Nanyue King Wen is the burial site of Zhao Mo, the second king of the Nanyue Kingdom.

From the well-preserved mausoleum that has never been looted before, over 1,000 precious pieces of artifacts representing the essence of cultural heritage in the Lingnan region during the Qin and Han Dynasties were unearthed, making it the largest and best-preserved painted stone chamber tomb from the Han Dynasty in the Lingnan region.

The mausoleum provides valuable insights into the political, economic, and cultural development of the Nanyue Kingdom over 2,000 years ago, thus serving as a milestone in the archaeological industry of the Lingnan region since the establishment of the People's Republic of China, as well as a treasure house containing precious materials for studying the history of cultural exchanges between the Lingnan area and other regions around the world.

Distinguished from traditional exhibitions that centers on the display of artifacts, this one showcases a distinctive style with a diverse range of exhibits and the use of information technology to create an interactive experience:

At the entrance of the exhibition, multimedia interactive equipment was established to tell the stories of the excavation. By touching the screen, visitors can witness the three archaeological sites of the Nanyue Kingdom, and be surprised by the diversified archaeological findings. Behind a display case, a transparent screen is displaying the story of Nanyue told by experts in site protection and collection management.

At the exit of the exhibition, visitors are allowed to take photos with the cultural relics in front of the "Magic Mirror", which will be displayed on the luminous tree nearby, symbolizing the everlasting Nanyue culture. Through all these interactive installations, the museum aims to create an entertaining and digitalized exhibition for visitors.
