This year, Guangdong's fashion events have gained remarkable influence, with Dior and Chanel hosting their first-ever "runway shows" in Shenzhen. Ralph Lauren opened its first "Ralph Lauren Home" in South China at Luohu MixC Shopping Mall, and several luxury brands have organized events in Shenzhen and Guangzhou. The fashion industry in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is facing significant opportunities and challenges.

On December 10th, the inaugural GBA China Chic Fashion Industry Gathering Conference and Digital Transformation Development Conference was held at Guangdong Baiyun University, where the first Academic Annual Conference on Industrial Digitization and Customized Economy kicked off. The conference aimed to explore new methods and pathways for the digital transformation and innovative upgrading of traditional manufacturing industries in the Greater Bay Area, including textile and apparel, beauty and personal care, custom home furnishings, and jewelry.

The conference brought together fashion industry experts, scholars, representatives from over 50 industry associations and societies, more than 300 leaders and representatives from fashion and digital economy-related enterprises, and representatives from over 30 academic institutions.

According to the "2023 GBA Fashion Industry Development Report" released at the conference, in 2022, the operating revenue of China's textile and apparel industry's scale-above enterprises reached 1,453.89 billion yuan, with Guangdong Province accounting for 255.054 billion yuan, or 17.5% of the total. Although there was a slight decrease compared to 2021, Guangdong's textile and apparel industry still holds a prominent position, contributing nearly one-fifth of the national revenue in the sector.

Experts in the industry have proposed that with the continuous development of the Chinese economy, the improvement of China's manufacturing capabilities, and the increasing recognition of domestic brands by consumers, China-chic brands have become an area of focus for consumers.

The Greater Bay Area enjoys advantageous conditions for connecting to the global consumer market and developing a fashion industry that attracts domestic and international consumers. Its future development not only includes rich consumer content, high-end brands, diverse consumption patterns, and superior consumption environments but also encompasses a China-chic fashion market that can attract global consumers.

How can the fashion industry seize this wave of development opportunities? Many experts attending the conference provided various opinions and suggestions.

Guangdong's textile and apparel industry cluster, centered around cities such as Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Foshan, and Dongguan, has become one of the most complete, largest, and technologically advanced textile and apparel industry bases in China. In recent years, "cluster" has been one of the key keywords in numerous related documents issued by Guangdong. Furthermore, as a hub for foreign trade, the international market that Guangdong can connect to is equally significant.

In response, experts suggest that the future development of the fashion industry in the Greater Bay Area should focus on telling brand stories and enhancing the influence of fashion brands. They can leverage the diverse fashion events in the Bay Area, proactively plan, promote, and expose their brands to continuously increase their influence while also emphasizing cross-industry integration and urban marketing. Industry associations should actively organize fashion companies to participate in overseas exhibitions, helping local fashion brands seek international cooperation and expand into international markets.
