On December 1st, the 5th edition of the Zigong Lantern Carnival, themed "Journey into Oriental Mythology," officially kicked off at Shenzhen's Splendid China Folk Culture Village. Collaborating with a top domestic lantern-making team specializing in organizing the Zigong Lantern Festival, Splendid China meticulously planned a 520,000-square-meter lantern festival featuring seven main themed areas and over ten China chic pop-up performances. With a focus on "Admiring Lanterns + Watching Performances + Enjoying Cuisine + Interactive Experiences," the event introduces a diverse array of night activities, creating a multifaceted experience for Shenzhen's night tourism that combines entertainment, food, shopping, and appreciation, catering to the one-stop-play needs of the younger generation.
Notably, this year's lantern festival is the largest in its history, marking the first time the entire Splendid China Folk Culture Village is illuminated. The scale, quantity, and exquisite craftsmanship of the lantern displays are awe-inspiring. As the representative project on the national intangible cultural heritage list, the Zigong Lantern Festival introduces seven new themed lantern areas at Splendid China, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the lantern festival while experiencing the unique charm of traditional Chinese culture.
One standout exhibit is the large-scale water lantern display "Mysterious East," utilizing water bodies, architecture, bridges, greenery, and various interactive elements such as sound, light, and mist to create a diverse and layered experiential space.
In addition to the myriad colorful lanterns, Splendid China has curated multiple nighttime performances for visitors to enjoy a feast of traditional Chinese culture. Astonishing acrobatic feats, such as jar tricks, contortion, and plate spinning, leave spectators in awe. Traditional delicacies like Yunnan rice noodles, Chaoshan beef offal, candied hawthorns, and entertaining sugar paintings offer a delightful culinary experience. The enchanting flower float parade adds a dazzling visual spectacle and interactive surprises. The lantern festival is set to continue until March 10th, encompassing several key holidays, including the Winter Solstice, New Year's Day, Chinese New Year's Eve, Chinese New Year, Lantern Festival, and International Women's Day.
