Scenes from sci-fi films featuring "flying cars" and "air taxis" are about to become a reality in Guangzhou. Focusing on the low-altitude economy and aerospace industry, reporters visited Xpeng Aeroht, EHang, and XAG on the 18th to explore the "new" secrets behind low-altitude economic development in Guangzhou.
At Xpeng Aeroht, reporters saw the so-called "Land Aircraft Carrier" Modular Flying Car. This tri-axle, six-wheel vehicle is about 5.5 meters long and can fit into a standard parking space. Hidden in its trunk is a foldable passenger-carrying aircraft. Founder Zhao Deli revealed that since its debut at the 2024 Zhuhai Airshow, the product has received nearly 5,000 orders and is expected to enter mass production and delivery in the first half of 2026. "Regulations will not be a barrier in the future. We anticipate airspace reforms that will allow users to fly in open areas first before gradually integrating into urban settings," said Zhao.
According to EHang Vice President Xue Peng, the company's EH216-S autonomous passenger-carrying aircraft has obtained the world's first eVTOL airworthiness certification and is about to receive its operational certificate (OC), officially entering the commercialization phase. "In the future, residents will be able to hail an air taxi just like booking a ride-hailing service, with flights available via mobile application," Xue revealed. Guangzhou is currently building low-altitude infrastructure, with plans to construct more than five hub-style vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) sites and over 100 regular takeoff and landing points, creating a "bus-like" low-altitude transport network.
In the agricultural sector, XAG's drones have been widely adopted in smart farming. According to Qian Shuting, General Manager of Public Affairs at XAG, the company's latest agricultural drone can autonomously spray crops, spread seeds, conduct aerial surveys, and transport materials, taking as little as 11 seconds to disperse a bag of fertilizer. "In the past, a farmer could plow only one acre per hour. Now, with drones, they can cover up to 300 acres," she said. The drones are easy to operate, and even elderly people can quickly master their use. XAG sells 30,000 to 40,000 units annually, with products exported to over 70 countries worldwide.
