As the global box office of "Ne Zha 2" continues to climb, it has reached 9th place as of February 17th. Its success is attributed to the cross-regional collaboration across China's animation industry chain, with 138 animation and film companies and over 4,000 Chinese animation talents involved. Of the 138 companies, 20 are from Chengdu, the main production hub of "Ne Zha 2", and the remaining are from multiple regions, including 10 from Guangdong, contributing to co-production, visual effects, and rendering processes.
Shenzhen Rock Visual Effects Technology Co., Ltd. completed special effects for the lava scene of "Sky-Splitting Claw". CEO Nie Huajun noted that the production standards of "Ne Zha 2" were far beyond "Ne Zha 1", as the difficulty in production technology increased at least fivefold. Shenzhen Rayvision Technology Co., Ltd. provides cloud rendering service, with its platform enabling massive rendering tasks to be split and processed in parallel, significantly reducing rendering time.
Guangdong's growing digital creative industry chain resulted in the rise of these companies. Guangdong's emerging digital creative sector is booming, as the large-scale animation and gaming industry ranks among the top in China's animation industry.
The production of "Ne Zha 2" adopted "modular management". The project is divided into 26 independent modules, shifting from "production in workshops" to "industrial collaboration." Guangdong started early in the animation industry. With a complete system, Guangdong has played a significant role in building the industrial framework of China's animation film. Guangzhou Didi Network Technology was responsible for 2D character and scene design, reflecting the progress in the industrialization system of China's domestic animation.
The film's creative planning and production efficiency required Guangdong companies to be strongly capable of cooperating within the industry. The use of agile development models also supported the demands of the film to be creative and exquisite.
The success of "Ne Zha 2" is significant to Guangdong's animation industry. It showcases the influence of China's animation industry, boosts confidence for future development, and offers valuable experience. Guangdong has also introduced relevant plans to promote collaboration in the digital creative industry and build public service platforms. However, there are still shortages in the Guangdong animation industry, including the prevalence of overly simplistic and juvenile content, and a lack of vibrant corporate teams. Experts suggest Guangdong's animation industry further engage in the animation film production chain, adjust the industry structure, complete the industry ecosystem, and strengthen its competitiveness.
