After the Chinese New Year, major venues in Pazhou have started to hold exhibitions, with global buyers preparing to begin their visits. Guangzhou's key exhibition halls have a packed schedule, with over 40 exhibitions expected to be held in February and March, covering more than 1.7 million square meters, showcasing dynamic energy in the first quarter.
Last year, Guangzhou's professional exhibitions grew strongly. The scale of events in key industries increased notably including healthcare and industrial coatings, which reached growth rates of 95% and 84%, respectively. February and March are peak seasons for procurement by manufacturing companies and international buyers. Guangzhou has nurtured and introduced leading professional exhibitions by coordinating among multiple government departments to support scheduled events. Now, Guangzhou is preparing for the 137th Canton Fair. Other major industry exhibitions are also upcoming, such as the Guangzhou Entertainment Technology Show and the Dental South China International Expo.
Exhibitions attract large flows of people and goods, and consumer-oriented exhibitions attract numerous visitors and act as platforms for consumption upgrades. For example, the Original Comic-con, which attracts the largest number of individual audiences in China, drew over 10,000 visitors with its unique experiences. The 7th COMICUP Guangzhou Fan Association will also take place soon.
Cultural consumer-related exhibitions have seen rapid growth in recent years. Anime and game exhibitions are growing rapidly, with significant increases in scale and a high level of popularity. In 2024, nearly 60 professional consumer exhibitions targeting individual audiences were held, with attendance increasing by 33% year-on-year, and anime and game exhibitions seeing a 26% year-on-year growth in visitors. With the rise of Chinese animation, The China International Comic Festival and related expo on anime games showcase original works that highlight Chinese cultural features, driving over 220 million yuan in consumption.
In 2025, Guangzhou will further expand the spillover effect of exhibitions through events including the Canton Fair to promote consumption and encourage interaction between consumer exhibitions, cultural tourism, sports, and commercial areas. Guangzhou plans to create diverse consumer scenarios and inspire event organizers to plan innovative activities, offering a comprehensive consumption experience for exhibitors and visitors.
