WeRide's US stock surge highlights Guangzhou's leading role in autonomous driving

On the evening of February 14th, WeRide's US stock surged over 120% in pre-market trading and skyrocketed by 140% at the opening, triggering a trading halt. The surge was driven by Nvidia's disclosure of holding approximately 1.74 million shares of WeRide, With a market value of 24.65 million dollars, drawing global attention to Guangzhou's autonomous driving sector.

Founded in 2017 in Guangzhou, WeRide has completed 10 rounds of funding, With investors including GAC Group and Nvidia. The company is focused on developing autonomous driving systems. Autonomous driving is also a key business segment for Nvidia, Which further underscores Guangzhou's position as a major city for the autonomous driving sector in China, With certain areas reaching internationally advanced levels.

Guangzhou boasts the largest Robotaxi testing fleet in China. WeRide operates over 300 autonomous vehicles in the city, With cumulative test mileage surpassing 20 million kilometers in 2023. Baidu Apollo and Pony.ai also have testing fleets exceeding 100 vehicles each, covering multiple regions and with scaled testing capabilities nearing those of Phoenix, Arizona, in the US. The GAC Research and Design Center has achieved millisecond-level data fusion across multiple devices, With a target detection accuracy rate of 99.3%. Pazhou and Bio Island in Guangzhou have deployed 5G+V2X full-coverage testing zones, With communication latency below 20ms, meeting international standards. Guangzhou has also pioneered Robotaxi paid operations and opened autonomous truck port logistics for commercial applications. In 2020, WeRide became the first company in China to receive approval for fully unmanned road testing.

Currently, Guangzhou ranks among the global leaders in policy openness, commercialization speed, And vehicle-road coordination infrastructure, With its "soft infrastructure" surpassing that of many European and American cities. However, challenges remain. Most automotive-grade AI chips rely on imports, And there is room for improvement in core algorithm efficiency, chip localization, And global standard-setting influence. The talent pool also needs to expand, As Guangzhou hosting around 12,000 autonomous driving engineers, With top algorithm talent remains concentrated in Beijing and Shanghai.

文远知行美股一度暴涨,广州自动驾驶水平到哪了

2月14日晚间,文远知行美股盘前暴涨超120%,开盘后一度大涨140%并熔断,原因是英伟达披露持有约174万股文远知行美股,持仓市值达2465万美元,广州自动驾驶企业受全球关注。

文远知行2017年成立于广州,完成10轮融资,投资方包括广汽、英伟达等,是汽车自动驾驶系统研发商。自动驾驶是英伟达重要业务板块,这显示广州作为中国自动驾驶产业重要城市,部分领域达国际先进水平。

广州拥有全国规模最大的Robotaxi测试车队。文远知行在广州运营超300辆自动驾驶车,2023年累计测试里程破2000万公里;百度Apollo与小马智行测试车队规模均超百辆,覆盖多区域,规模化测试能力接近美国凤凰城。广汽研究院系统实现多设备毫秒级数据融合,目标检测准确率达99 .3%;琶洲、生物岛部署5G+V2X全域覆盖测试区,通信延迟低于20ms,达国际标准。广州还率先实现Robotaxi收费运营,开放自动驾驶卡车港口物流商业化应用,文远知行2020年成为中国首家获准全无人驾驶路测的公司。

目前广州在政策开放性、商业化落地速度、车路协同基建等方面处于全球第一梯队,“软基建”超越多数欧美城市。但也存在问题,车规级AI芯片大多依赖进口,核心算法效率、芯片自主化、全球化标准话语权有待提升,人才队伍需扩张,广州自动驾驶工程师约1.2万人,顶尖算法人才多集中于北京、上海。
