The 22nd Teochew International Convention and the 10th World Chaoshan Entrepreneurs Convention(known as "two major events") will be held in Shantou from November 18th to 20th. From November 1st to 5th, over 50 journalists and social media influencers from home and abroad arrived in Shantou, joining together to explore the historical stories of Chaoshan ancestors who emigrated for livelihood and the unique culture of the hometown of overseas Chinese.

Yi Xiong, a senior media professional from Malaysia and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Kwong Wah Yit Poh Press, is no stranger to Shantou. Since his mother is from Chaoshan, he has an innate familiarity with everything Chaoshan. However, this visit with the delegation has brought him new feelings,"When I heard the Chaozhou opera and the Chaozhou gongs and drums, i was deeply moved. We often invite Chaozhou opera troupes from Thailand and Singapore to perform during the annual Zhongyuan Festivalin Malaysia to honor the gods, so I have a strong affinity for Chaozhou opera. Additionally, seeing Chaozhou delicacies like bean paste and black olives during the visit reminded me of my mother."

In the former residence of Chen Cihong, known as "The first overseas Chinese residence in Lingnan", Moroccan social media influencer Amina was pleasantly surprised to find similarities between the decorative elements of the walls, doors, windows, and floor tiles and those of her own country's architecture. It turns out that this former residence of Chen Cihong in Chenghai, shantou, stands as a testament to historical cultural exchanges. The building materials used in the former residence were a collection of the finest from both China and abroad at that time. Among them, there are dozens of imported tile designs that have retained their vibrant patterns and colors after a century, which also left Amina in awe.

Shantou, renowned as a hometown of overseas Chinese in China, will soon host the "two major events" that aim to unite the global Chaoshan community to gather the mighty power of the Chaoshan people. It is reported that the upcoming conventions mark their return to Shantou after a gap since the 9th Teochew International Convention in 1997 and the inaugural World Chaoshan Entrepreneurs Convention in 2005 (formally renamed in April 2024). This is the first time they will be held concurrently in the same city and is expected to be the largest and most representative international event Shantou has hosted in recent years.

As of now, the organizers of these two major events have received registrations from over 2,000 guests representing 263 associations, chambers of commerce, and organizations from 35 countries and regions across six continents.

50多位中外记者和自媒体人走进侨乡汕头，寻觅潮汕“过番”故事

第二十二届国际潮团联谊年会和第十届世界潮商大会“两大盛会”将于11月18日至20日在汕头市举行。11月1日至5日，“穿越山海 瞧见美好——2024侨乡汕头”参访团来到汕头，50多位中外记者、自媒体人一齐寻觅潮汕先民“过番”的历史故事和独特的侨乡文化。

马来西亚资深媒体人、《光华日报》副总编辑易雄不是第一次踏足汕头，因为母亲是潮汕人，他对潮汕的一切有着天然的熟悉感，不过这次随团参访之行让他有了新的感触：“听到潮剧、潮州大锣鼓等表演的时候，我鸡皮疙瘩都起来了，很感动，我们在马来西亚每年中元节拜神的时候，都会聘请泰国、新加坡的潮剧团来表演酬神，所以我对潮剧有种很熟悉的感觉。另外，参观时看到豆酱、乌橄榄这些潮汕小吃，也会让我想起我的妈妈。”

“岭南第一侨宅”陈慈黉故居中，来自摩洛哥的自媒体博主Amina惊奇地发现，有些墙壁贴砖、门窗装饰和地砖，竟和自己家乡建筑的装饰风格一模一样。原来，这座位于汕头澄海的陈慈黉故居是中外文化交流的历史见证，故居中使用的建筑材料汇集当时中外精华，其中单进口瓷砖式样就有几十种，这些瓷砖历经百年，花纹色彩依然亮丽如新，也让Amina大呼神奇。

汕头是全国著名侨乡，即将到来的“两大盛会”也将团结全球潮亲汇聚磅礴的潮人力量。据悉，此次“两大盛会”的举办，是继1997年第九届国际潮团联谊年会、2005年首届国际潮商大会（今年4月正式更名为“世界潮商大会”）后再度回归汕头，是首次同城举办，也是近年来汕头市举办的人数最多、会期最长、代表性最广泛的国际盛会。

据悉，截至目前，两大盛会主办方已收到全球6大洲35个国家和地区263个社团、商会、组织及机构逾两千名嘉宾的报名信息。
