On October 18th, the 8th China Intangible Cultural Heritage Expo opened in Jinan, Shandong. It showcases over a hundred heritage practitioners, including skilled artisans and innovative inheritors from the next generation, reflecting the vibrancy and creativity in the inheritance of intangible cultural heritage.

Sun Geyao, the fifth-generation inheritor of Xuzhou sachet-making, has taken up the craft from her grandmother. While adhering to traditional techniques, She has also modernized the designs to cater to the preferences of consumers and collaborated with popular games. Thanks to her and her grandmother's influence, over 600 villagers participated in sachet making in 2023, achieving entrepreneurship and re-employment, with the village's sachet industry exceeding a production value of 10 million yuan.

Another standout was 14-year-old Wang Xiran, from a renowned family in crafting Laiwu Tin Sculpture. As the tenth-generation inheritor, he is collaborating with his father and grandfather on new works. He has been learning tin sculpting with his family since childhood. Although he currently focuses on his studies, he hopes to continue the family's tin sculpting tradition in the future.

The expo highlighted many young inheritors who bring intangible cultural heritage into modern life through new methods. Huang Liyong, an inheritor of the Quanzhou Xunpu women's customs, Showcased her "hairpin flower" designs, which garnered strong interest from the audience. She shared experiences from a recent cultural promotion event in Paris. "Although I can't understand the local language, the enthusiasm from the audience was evident through their expressions and thumbs-up gestures." For her, this illustrates the charm of traditional culture, which transcends borders and resonates in people's hearts.

This expo not only gathered numerous heritage practitioners but also emphasized the participation of younger generations, allowing them to engage and learn traditional skills through activities like the "Intangible Cultural Heritage Stage," showcasing the vibrant life of cultural heritage.
