As the Paris 2024 Olympics opens with grandeur, China's artistic swimming team captures the spotlight with their ambition to "dazzle every moment and amaze every second." Among the judges, a familiar Chinese face stands out—Bai Muwei, a teacher from Guangdong Pharmaceutical University . With her expertise and passion, Bai represents China with pride. She holds dual qualifications as an international A-level judge and an international technical controller, having officiated at numerous high-level international competitions, including the World Aquatics Championships .

Bai Muwei's journey in synchronized swimming began at the age of six. She trained for three years at the provincial swimming pool in Baoding City, Hebei Province, before switching to competitive swimming. At 13, she won a gold medal in the 800-meter freestyle at the Provincial Games, showcasing her talent and hard work.

In 2001, Bai enrolled in Guangzhou Sport University for her master's degree. Her mentor, Professor Wu Hehai, recognizing her background and potential, guided her to delve into synchronized swimming. In 2006, as the Chinese artistic swimming team prepared for the Beijing 2008 Olympics, they needed a Japanese-speaking translator. Bai's undergraduate experience studying Japanese at Tianjin University of Sport made her an ideal candidate. She was seconded to Beijing as a translator and assistant coach, during which she witnessed the team's historic medal breakthrough.

Bai's officiating career began as an international G-level judge. With continuous support from the Swimming Center of the General Administration of Sport of China and her own relentless efforts, she eventually rose to become an international A-level judge. She is the only judge in China's artistic swimming program with dual qualifications as an international A-level judge and an international technical controller.

Finally, a "Chinese teacher " appeared on the judging panel of international artistic swimming competitions! Each of her judgments reflects a precise understanding of the rules and a profound interpretation of the spirit of sportsmanship.

"Working with the Chinese artistic swimming team in preparation for the Beijing 2008 Olympics gave me deep insights into the techniques and skills of artistic swimming, which greatly helped my later officiating career," Bai said.

"Judging is also a way of bringing glory to the country," Bai deeply feels. In February this year, while serving as an international technical official for artistic swimming at the Doha 2024 World Aquatics Championships , a team disputed a penalty and appealed. In the highest arbitration court of artistic swimming, in front of a jury of 30 members from different countries, Bai, as a technical official representative, calmly and fluently explained the penalty process and basis in English. Her clear and concise statement earned the jury's respect and approval. When she exited the arbitration court, judges from other countries embraced her with excitement, and Bai knew she was representing China at that moment.

To date, Bai Muwei has officiated at three Asian Games , witnessing the Chinese artistic swimming team win six gold medals. She has also officiated at six World Championships, accompanying the team as they climbed to world champion status. As she officiates at the Paris 2024 Olympics, she hopes to witness the Chinese artistic swimming team win gold once again.

一名广东教师的奥运执裁之路

随着2024年巴黎奥运会的华丽开幕，中国花样游泳队以“力争惊艳全场，每一秒钟都精彩”的豪情壮志，赢得了无数目光的聚焦与期待。而在裁判席上，一张清秀的“中国面孔”也将格外引人注目，她就是广东药科大学的白慕炜老师，她以她的专业与热情，为国争光。这位拥有国际A级裁判和国际技术控制员双执裁资格的裁判员，已多次代表中国执裁世界游泳锦标赛等国际高水平比赛。

白慕炜的花样游泳之路始于6岁，在河北省保定市省游泳馆进行了三年花样游泳业余训练后转练游泳。13岁时，她以省运会800米自由泳金牌，展现了自己的天赋与努力。

2001年，白慕炜考入广州体育学院攻读硕士研究生，她的导师吴河海教授，结合她的经历与潜力，引导她深入研究花样游泳。2006年，中国花样游泳队备战北京奥运会，急需一名懂日语的翻译员，白慕炜凭借本科时在天津体育学院学习日语的经历，被借调至北京，担任翻译和教练助理，见证了中国花样游泳队在北京奥运赛场上奖牌突破的辉煌。

白慕炜的裁判生涯，从国际G级裁判起步，在国家体育总局游泳中心的培养下经过自己不懈的努力与挑战，最终晋升为国际A级裁判，并成为我国花样游泳项目唯一一名具有国际A级裁判和国际技术控制员双执裁资格的裁判员。

花样游泳国际大赛裁判席上终于出现了“中国教师”！她的每一次执裁，都是对花样游泳规则的精准把握，每一次判决，都是对运动精神的深刻诠释。

“在与中国花样游泳队一起备战北京奥运会这两年，我对花样游泳技术、技巧有了深入了解，对我后来在花样游泳执裁有很大帮助。”白慕炜说。

“执裁也是在为国争光。”白慕炜对此感受颇深。今年2月，她作为2024年多哈世界游泳锦标赛花样游泳国际技术官员执裁期间，有一支代表队对判罚提出异议，并进行申诉。在花样游泳的最高仲裁法庭里，面对着30名来自不同国家的陪审团成员，白慕炜作为技术官员代表，沉着冷静，用流利的英语陈述了判罚的流程和依据。她的陈述清晰、简明，赢得了陪审团的尊重与认可。当她走出仲裁法庭，其他国家的裁判与她激动相拥时，白慕炜知道此刻她也代表着中国。

截至目前，白慕炜已执裁3届亚运会，见证中国花样游泳队夺得6枚金牌；执裁6届世锦赛，陪伴中国花样游泳队一步步走上世界冠军领奖台。这次执裁巴黎奥运会，她希望能够见证中国花样游泳队冲金成功。
