Guangdong leads in the number of "post-90s" leaders

According to data from iFinD, there are over 5,300 chairpersons in A-share companies, with an average age of around 55. The "post-50s" and "post-60s" generations dominate the scene. In contrast, there are only 57 "post-90s" chairpersons, accounting for less than 2% of the total (as of May 10th this year).

In terms of gender, there are 47 males and 10 females, making up 82% and 18%, respectively. The gender ratio is significantly higher than that of all chairpersons in the A-share market, where female chairpersons make up about 6%. The proportion of female chairpersons in the "post-90s" group is three times the overall female proportion, indicating a rising trend of women participating in corporate decision-making and management.

The common feature among these "post-90s" leaders is their "well-educated" background. More than 20 of them have studied abroad, with destinations including the US, UK, Australia, and Canada. Additionally, many have graduated from prestigious Chinese universities such as Peking University and Renmin University of China.

These emerging forces are focusing on the industrial stage. According to the classification of industries by Shenwan Hongyuan, the fields of machinery and equipment, as well as pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, have the most "post-90s" chairpersons, followed closely by media, textiles and apparel, basic chemicals, agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, fishery, light industry manufacturing, and retail trade.

In terms of geographical distribution, 18 of the 57 listed companies are from Guangdong. Jiangsu follows with 7 companies, while Zhejiang and Shanxi each have four, tied for third place.

Post-90s from the Chaoshan Region achieve doubled performance

In the world of business, wearing the crown comes with bearing its weight. Whether "post-90s" chairpersons can handle this responsibility is a focal point for many investors, and performance data sheds light on their capabilities.

According to data from iFinD, among the 57 listed companies, five have a market value exceeding 10 billion yuan, while another 13 currently have a market value of less than 2 billion yuan, with the lowest being less than 500 million yuan.

Regarding operational performance, in 2023, among the aforementioned 57 companies, 26 saw a year-on-year increase in net profit, while 31 experienced a decline. Moreover, many "post-90s" chairpersons have exceeded expectations, with companies like Lead Micro, Wuika Times, Mingchen, SHUNHO, and RASTAR doubling their performance.

It's worth mentioning that among these players, three companies are led by "Chaoshan merchants" from Guangdong. Mingchen achieved a revenue of 1.638 billion yuan in 2023, a year-on-year increase of 73.21%, with a net profit attributable to shareholders of 70.3647 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 177.15%. Mingchen is known for brands like DIFASO and MEWON and is currently chaired by Chen Jianming, born in 1990 and hailing from Shantou, Guangdong.

Similarly, SHUNHO, led by a "post-90s" from Chaoshan, achieved a revenue of 1.425 billion yuan in 2023, a year-on-year increase of 1.01%, with a net profit attributable to shareholders of 28.4027 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 147.41%. Although it is headquartered in Shanghai, the chairman and controlling shareholder of the company, Wang Zhenlin, has ancestral roots in Chaoshan.

Furthermore, RASTAR, led by Chen Chuanghuang, son of Chen Yansheng, who is known as "the King of Toy in Chaoshan", achieved a turnaround from loss to profit in the past year, with a net profit attributable to shareholders of 27.7085 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 108.93%. Chen Chuanghuang, born in 1993 in Chenghai, Shantou, has been serving as the general manager of RASTAR since 2020.
