January 20th marks Penguin Awareness Day, aiming to raise public awareness about penguin conservation. On January 18th, Chimelong Ocean Kingdom held an exhibition showcasing the breeding achievements of penguins. It is reported that in 2023, Chimelong successfully bred over 60 penguins, making it the largest penguin conservation base in China.

According to reports, gentoo penguins in Zhuhai have achieved the miraculous feat of"four generations under one roof." Last year, the gentoo penguin registered at Chimelong in Zhuhai began welcoming their third generation of offspring. Conservationists explain that gentoo penguins are the third-largest penguin species in terms of size, surpassed only by emperor penguins and king penguins. They can reach a weight of up to 8.5 kilograms and a height of 75 to 80 centimeters. Additionally, they are the fastest swimmers among penguin species, capable of reaching speeds of up to 36 kilometers per hour.

At the Adélie Penguin Pavilion, 20 Adélie penguin babies celebrated their "graduation". They have completed the molting process, shedding their downy feathers and donning new waterproof plumage, enabling them to start learning how to swim. Soon they will integrate into the larger Adélie penguin population.

Caretakers note that around September each year, Adélie penguins begin searching for stones to build nests. These stones help prevent the nests and eggs from getting wet due to melting ice and snow. The caretaker team optimizes the time and quantity of stone placement based on experience, ensuring that all the penguins have the opportunity to showcase their charms, secure stones, and successfully find their mates.

Simultaneously, another rare chinstrap penguin  baby made its debut. It is known that after 2015 and 2022, Chimelong Ocean Kingdom welcomed another chinstrap penguin baby in 2023. This healthy penguin, over 50 days old, has already left its parents and is learning how to interact and feed independently alongside other penguin babies.

Reporters have learned that newly hatched penguin babies of various species are energetic and playful during the first few months of their lives. They enjoy participating in group activities. Caretakers carefully monitor these little ones and meticulously prepare their food, which includes herring, saury, and krill, to meet their nutritional requirements. Furthermore, regular check-ups are conducted to ensure their overall health and well-being.
