The 2024 Youth Music Culture in the Greater Bay Area (YMCG) will take place from January 20th to February 1st in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Renowned conductor Daniel Harding will lead the team of mentors during the music festival, which includes principal musicians and seasoned performers from world-class orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic and the Vienna Philharmonic. Together, they will embark on a journey to explore the mysteries of music.
Harding expressed great anticipation for the "musical journey" in the Greater Bay Area, saying, "Every musician in the Greater Bay Area is fortunate. There is an abundance of exceptional musical talents and young prodigies here, and I hope everyone gains further musical inspiration in this region. The members of the orchestra come from diverse backgrounds and have different philosophies, but by fostering a sense of teamwork within the ensemble, we can further realize both individual and collective values. It would be inaccurate to say that I am here to 'guide' everyone during the music festival; rather, I am here to learn alongside a group of talented young individuals."
According to the organizers, over 80 young musicians under the age of 30 have been selected for this year's music festival. These outstanding young musicians were chosen from applicants hailing from renowned music academies and universities in more than 70 countries and regions, including China, Russia, the United States, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, the Philippines, Germany, Austria, the United Kingdom, and France. Additionally, around 20 applicants come from 16 professional orchestras in China. Among the orchestra members, over 50 are from renowned music academies both domestic and international, while the remaining 20 come from 16 Chinese professional orchestras.
Throughout the music festival, Harding, along with the mentors and participants, will make appearances at various cultural and tourist landmarks in the Greater Bay Area. What's more, in 2024, the world will commemorate the 120th anniversary of the passing of the eminent composer Antonín Dvořák. This event will ignite a wave of commemorative activities worldwide. During the current GBA music festival, symphony concerts featuring two of Dvořák's famous symphonies will be performed.
