Recently, the list of forest chief-guarded green parks for the year 2023 in Guangdong Province was announced. Fifteen parks, including the Liyun Park in Zengcheng District, Guangzhou, have made it to the list, bringing the total number of forest chief-guarded green parks in the province to 26. According to the Guangdong Provincial Forestry Bureau, the newly disclosed provincial-level forest chief-guarded green parks come from 15 cities, including Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhaoqing, Maoming, and Shaoguan, achieving full coverage across the Pearl River Delta, eastern, western, and northern Guangdong.
The forest chief-guarded green parks in Guangdong Province refer to areas where forest chiefs at all levels fulfill their duties in promoting ecological construction, advancing scientific afforestation, strengthening resource management, and addressing key and challenging issues within their designated areas. These parks serve as exemplary and model regions for three main themes: precise improvement of forest quality, transforming the value of green mountains and clear waters into gold and silver, and sharing the ecological well-being of a green Guangdong.
The selected provincial-level forest chief-guarded green parks include various types such as state-owned forest farms, forest parks, wetland parks, desert parks, and tree parks. They boast a good ecological environment, rich biodiversity, and well-established infrastructure, showcasing the work of forest chiefs and integrating elements of Lingnan ecological culture, as well as addressing issues like forest land and other ownership disputes.
For instance, Liyun Park in Zengcheng District, Guangzhou, highlights the beautiful scenery along the Zengjiang River as its core landscape element. It integrates the historical and cultural characteristics of Zengcheng District and utilizes the region's wildlife resources to offer citizens diverse experiences, including natural education, mountain climbing, leisurely walks, and more. Meanwhile, the Jinniu Island Mangrove Park in Zhanjiang actively protects and restores the mangrove forest through collaborative efforts between construction units at the provincial, municipal, and district levels. This involves projects such as mangrove cultivation and restoration, promoting the return of ponds to forests and wetlands, safeguarding the "national treasure" status of the mangrove forest, preserving its beauty and greenery.
Currently, the province has appointed a total of 93,067 forest chiefs, 36,158 forest protection officers (including green protection officers), and 32,501 supervisory officers, providing solid support for the frontline of ecological construction in the green and beautiful Guangdong.
