On November 1st, the 140th Canton Fair was bustling with visitors. With the 33rd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting scheduled to take place in Shenzhen on November 18th and 19th, the trade-focused exhibition is turning Guangdong's economic and trade figures with APEC member economies into vivid stories unfolding in workshops and booths.
At the Intelligent Healthcare Zone, the booth of MACY-PAN, a brand of Shanghai Baobang Medical Equipment Co., Ltd., drew a steady stream of overseas buyers from Canada, Australia, Malaysia, Vietnam and Ethiopia to its hyperbaric oxygen chambers. Yin Hongliang, the company's overseas sales manager, said, "We are a long-time exhibitor and have attended the Canton Fair for more than 20 consecutive sessions. This year, prospective buyers are more decisive in placing orders. The value of intended orders on our opening day alone is estimated to have exceeded 600,000 US dollars."

Budi, a buyer from Indonesia, visited various exhibition areas with a notebook filled with product specifications. "I have brought my procurement team to the Canton Fair to find innovative products that offer good value for money. APEC economies are geographically close and have complementary market needs. Through closer trade ties, we hope to identify more opportunities for two-way cooperation," he said. Budi added that, beyond sourcing products, he was also following the upcoming APEC meeting and hoped that consensus on trade facilitation would be translated into concrete measures to reduce cross-border trading costs.
Reporters on site noticed that buyers were no longer discussing only the prices of finished products. Their conversations increasingly focused on production capacity coordination, supply chain backup and localized delivery capacity. Many companies prominently displayed messages such as "Factory in Malaysia," "Made in Vietnam" and "Produced in Thailand" at their booths, signaling their commitments to production capacity and delivery. Nabila, who has worked with Guangdong suppliers for years, has seen this shift firsthand.
She said cooperation with her Guangdong partners goes beyond simple buying and selling. Instead, it involves precise market matching and customized solutions that benefit both sides. To cater to the preference among young people in Southeast Asia for bright colors, one supplier once prepared hundreds of color swatches and worked through them with a client one by one, until they found the shade best suited to local skin tones.
