On the evening of October 31, the 6th Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Culture and Arts Festival ("GBA Culture and Arts Festival") kicked off at the Bay Opera of Shenzhen. This year's festival gathers international artists such as Anna Netrebko and Yuja Wang in the lineup. The American Ballet Theatre also presents the premiere of "Swan Lake" in the GBA. Meanwhile, the festival presents seven major genres of Chinese opera, including Peking Opera, Kunqu, and Yue Opera, alongside performances by over a dozen artists who have won the Plum Blossom Award. Among them, a number of outstanding works from Guangdong, including the Cantonese opera "Madam Qiao Guo" and the dance drama "Wing Chun", also took to the stage.

Notably, as Shenzhen prepares to host events for the 2026 APEC "China Year", this year's GBA Culture and Arts Festival has cooperated with domestic and international art troupes and institutions. They have rolled out a series of premium performances, thematic exhibitions, public welfare, and public-benefit arts education activities in the city, allowing local residents to enjoy top-tier cultural services within easy reach.
The 5th GBA Culture and Arts Festival featured "The Art of Resonance" lecture series, inviting dozens of renowned artists, including Tian Qinxin, Luo Huaizhen, and Huang Doudou, to deliver talks. Meanwhile, a variety of activities were held, including the "Art Illuminates Life" writing contest, citizen audience groups, curator-led tours, and artist dialogues among Shenzhen, Hong Kong, and Macao, which transformed citizens from audience into co-creators.
The reporter noted that this year's festival further highlights the GBA's role as a cultural hub: the blockbuster stage play "Blossoms Shanghai" trilogy is making its complete debut, presented in a 9-hour relay across two theaters in Guangzhou. As the guest province, Shaanxi brings six classic Qinqiang Opera works, including "The Orphan of Zhao", "The Brocade Pouch", and "Wordless Monument of Wu Zetian (First Female Emperor)". Out of the 75 premium performances, 36 are making their debut on the Greater Bay Area stage. With a regional premiere share of 48%, this marks a new record for the festival.
Thanks to five editions of brand-building, the GBA Culture and Arts Festival has attracted a massive audience to travel across cities to watch stage plays and exhibitions. Data show that in 2025, Guangdong province recorded a total of 37,400 performances and generated box office revenue of 6.515 billion yuan, both ranking third nationwide. Among them, large-scale commercial performances generated box office revenue of 3.853 billion yuan, ranking first nationwide.
