Guangdong has long maintained its leading position in China's medical device industry, ranking first nationwide onthe industry scale.The province also leads the country in the number of drug manufacturing licenses, traditional Chinese medicine manufacturers and medical device enterprises. These top rankings underscore Guangdong's strong foundation as a powerhouse in the biopharmaceutical sector. Ahead of the 2025 National Two Sessions, at the invitation of the Yangcheng Evening News "iSeeChina" (China Explorer) column, Moroccan international student Maya visited Guangzhou Medprin Regenerative Medical Technologies Co., Ltd. (Medprin Biotech) to explore the high-tech strength of Guangdong's biopharmaceutical industry.

Upon entering the product exhibition hall, Maya was intrigued by the brain slice images and multilayer mirror devices. "Are these images from different brains?" she asked. Liu Dezhi, a postdoctoral researcher in Medprin Biotech's R&D department, explained, "These images are from the same brain, vividly showcasing the concept of bio-additive manufacturing technology, which works by stacking layers progressively."

He introduced that Medprin Biotech started with bio-additive manufacturing technology (commonly known as "3D bioprinting") and pioneered the industrialization of this technology worldwide for soft tissue repair.

The ReDura Regenerative Dural Repair Patch is one of Medprin Biotech's core products. Maya touched the patch, which was soaked in liquid, and exclaimed, "This is amazing! So this is what human dura mater feels like."

What is the medical application of this product? Liu explained, "ReDura is biodegradable and helps regenerate damaged brain surface tissue, reducing the risk of surgical residues." In addition to dural repair, Recranio, the company's cranial repair material, also utilizes 3D-forming technology.

Ahead of the National Two Sessions, Yuan Yuyu, deputy of National People's Congress (NPC), shared his thoughts on his role.

"Many developed countries, universities, research institutes, and enterprises maintain close collaboration, enabling more efficient technological innovation," Yuan stated. He pointed out that China's relatively low technology commercialization rate is partly due to the lack of tech innovation asa "common language" between industry and academia.

At this year's Two Sessions, Yuan plans to advocate for topics such as stronger two-way exchanges between technology professionals and improved commercialization of research outcomes. He aims to promote the bidirectional flow of talents between enterprises, universities, and research institutes, further enhancing the efficiency of technology commercialization. "As a private enterprise, we should stay focused on our core business, strengthen R&D and product development, and expand from foundational innovations to global breakthroughs."

Maya is quite curious about Yuan's views on the current challenges facing the medical device industry as an NPC Deputy from the medical device industry.

"Simply speaking from the perspective of medical devices, many complex diseases and injuries still lack effective treatments, and medical products and technologies require continuous innovation," Yuan explained. He believes that the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) has a unique advantage with its manufacturing base, policy support, and clinical resources. In the future, more innovative medical products will emerge to serve patients worldwide.

摩洛哥留学生探访广州迈普医学,全国人大代表、迈普医学董事长袁玉宇分享履职心得:讲好科技创新这门“共同语言”

医疗器械产业规模连续多年稳居全国第一;药品生产许可证、中药生产企业、医疗器械生产企业数量均排名全国第一……多个“第一”背后是广东作为生物医药大省的底气。2025年全国两会前夕,应羊城晚报“iSeeChina”(中国探秘官)栏目之邀,摩洛哥留学生玛雅走进广州迈普再生医学科技股份有限公司(以下简称“迈普医学”),体验广东生物医药产业的高科技实力。

踏入迈普医学产品展示厅,大脑切片和千层镜装置让玛雅感到好奇:“这些是来自不同大脑的图像吗?”展厅中的企业研发部博士后刘德治解释道:“这展示的是同一个大脑的图像,形象地表现出生物增材制造技术,就是通过逐层堆叠的原理来实现的。”

他介绍,迈普医学以生物增材制造技术(俗称“生物3D打印”)起家,率先实现了全球生物增材制造技术在软组织修复领域的产业化。

“睿膜可吸收硬脑(脊)膜补片”是迈普医学的核心产品之一。玛雅触摸了一下这款浸泡在液体中的膜片,感叹道:“真是太神奇了!人类‘脑膜’的触感原来是这样的。”

这款产品在医疗上有什么作用?刘德治表示:“睿膜是可生物降解的,能够帮助受损的大脑表面局部组织再生,避免手术后遗留物的风险。”除了脑膜修复,公司的颅骨修复材料赛卢也应用了3D成形技术。

参加全国两会前,全国人大代表袁玉宇同记者分享了他的履职体会。

“在许多发达国家,高校、科研院所和企业的交流非常密切,能够更高效地在科技创新领域展开合作。”袁玉宇表示,当前我们的科技成果转化率不高,其中一个重要原因就是产业界和学术界没能讲好科技创新这门“共同语言”。

在今年的全国两会上,袁玉宇计划持续围绕“推动科技人才双向交流,促进科技成果转化”等话题发声,推动企业、高校和科研院所的人才双向流动,进一步提升科技成果的转化效率。“作为民营企业,应更加专注主业,加强技术研发与产品开发,从底层创新不断拓展到全球创新。”

作为来自医药企业的全国人大代表,袁玉宇如何看待当前医疗器械行业面临的挑战,玛雅对此充满好奇。

“单纯从医疗器械来说,目前许多复杂疾病和创伤尚未得到有效治疗,医疗产品和技术仍需不断创新。”袁玉宇表示。他认为,粤港澳大湾区有得天独厚的制造业基础、政策支持和临床资源,未来将涌现更多创新医疗产品,服务全球患者。
