This year's National Day Golden Week saw a surge of "Chinese fever" in Paris, France, where local media and audiences were buzzing about a dance drama from Shenzhen, China-the original Shenzhen dance drama "Wing Chun". In recent years, in addition to "Wing Chun", Guangzhou's acrobatic show "Swan", and Puning's Fumei Youth Yingge Team have also stepped onto the international stage, Creating a wave of "Lingnan style" abroad.
From September 20th to 21st, "Swan" kicked off its Russian tour with a performance at Moscow's Live Arena. Then, From September 26th to 28th, "Swan" made a grand appearance at the renowned Mariinsky Theatre, performing four sold-out shows and receiving what the audience called "the most enthusiastic applause in the history of the Mariinsky Theatre."
Local time from October 4th to 6th, "Wing Chun" captivated French audiences with four consecutive performances at the Palais des Congrès de Paris. Following a 12-show run over nine days at London's Sadler's Wells Theatre from August 30th to September 7th, "Wing Chun" has now toured 208 shows across 41 cities worldwide, achieving both critical acclaim and box office success.
The success of "Wing Chun" reflects the ongoing global reach of Lingnan culture. From the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to China, and from China to the world stage, Lingnan culture shines brightly due to its diverse charm. It is reported that "Wing Chun" performed 16 shows in London and Paris, with tickets for the evening shows almost sold out, setting a record for the longest commercial performance time, the most shows, and the best box office for a Chinese dance drama in Europe, successfully establishing a cultural brand in Europe.
The harvest of reputation and box office is attributed to the excellent quality of "Wing Chun" and its innovative overseas commercial performance model. "Wing Chun" has changed the previous government-funded model for cultural export projects and adopted a market-oriented commercial performance model to perform in London's West End and the Paris Conference Palace, two of the world's top art hubs. This large-scale, multi-show commercial run is unprecedented for Chinese dance dramas on the global stage.
As Guangdong's art and literature continue to reach international audiences, the world will undoubtedly discover more of the charm of Lingnan's excellent culture.
