At dawn on October 1st, a solemn flag-raising ceremony was held at the Golden Bauhinia Square near Victoria Harbour , marking the beginning of Hong Kong's celebrations for the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. As the national flag slowly ascended to the sounds of the national anthem, it set the stage for a series of commemorative events across the city.
In Wan Chai , colorful flags adorned the streets, and the iconic Star Ferry crossing the harbor was repainted in festive red. Banners expressing well-wishes, along with fluttering national flags and Hong Kong SAR flags, created a vibrant "China Red" atmosphere for the 75th National Day celebrations.
On Salisbury Road and Nathan Road in Tsim Sha Tsui , around 50 sets of Chinese knot lanterns were displayed along the streets, as part of the "United in Celebration" exhibit, specially designed by the Bauhinia Culture Group . As night fell, the streets became an illuminated canvas, where residents and tourists alike strolled amidst the glowing Chinese knots, flags, and lanterns, enhancing the festive atmosphere.
To mark the 75th anniversary of the People's Republic of China, the HKSAR Government and various sectors launched over 400 celebratory events, covering all aspects of city life. On October 1st, residents could enjoy half-priced movie tickets, along with various discounts on public transportation, such as 25% off on MTR fares and free rides for children on selected bus routes. Recreational and cultural facilities managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department , including sports venues, museums, and the Hong Kong Wetland Park , were also open to the public for free on the day.
In addition, more than 3,000 restaurants across the city offered dining discounts, and popular attractions like the West Kowloon Cultural District , Hong Kong Ocean Park , and the Peak Tram launched special offers for the holiday. Shoppers could also enjoy a 25% discount at designated markets and vendor stalls, while local farm-to-table services extended the same benefits during the National Day period.
