Interview with builders: Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link's technological breakthrough

This project stands out from other existing underwater tunnels globally. While fulfilling its functional requirements, we focused more on the human experience. In terms of design, the west artificial island, resembling a kite's head with its wings spread, connects to the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge. This gives the impression of a kite flying over the sea, perfectly combining architectural aesthetics with the functional needs of infrastructure.

Shen Weidong, Secretary of the S05 Section (Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link) Project Department:

I've been in the road and bridge engineering field for 41 years. Upon joining the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link project, I found it exceptionally unique. The average pile foundation depth is over 130 meters, with each tower containing 28 piles, making a total of 56 on both sides. The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link boasts three world records: it is the longest continuous span over the sea, has the highest height from the bridge deck to the water surface, and its anchorage is the largest sea anchorage. Its main cable steel wire, rated at 2060 MPa, is the strongest in China. Participating in such a super project before retirement is an honor. The Greater Bay Area will have an even brighter future!

Liu Haobin, Deputy General Manager of the West Artificial Island Project:

The island-building technology features four main innovations. First is the maintenance structure of the artificial island, built on a soft seabed requiring high maintenance standards. Second is the comprehensive application of soft foundation treatment, considering environmental protection, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. Third is the durability of the island's tunnels in a seawater environment, requiring stringent crack control. Finally, the artificial island's typhoon resistance and stability demands led to extensive research on the island's protection structure. The four innovations are leading in global island-building technology.

Fan Chuanbin, Executive Deputy Director of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link Management Center:

As a builder of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link, having overcome numerous challenges and seeing the project pass the final acceptance smoothly, I feel immensely proud. Key indicators like the concrete strength of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link have a 100% pass rate. The immersed tunnel achieved millimeter-level docking accuracy, and the main cable erection precision set new records. Across various construction fields, we have developed a comprehensive set of replicable and transferable experiences through innovative equipment and process development.

中国工程院院士、深中通道跨海工程房建项目设计总负责人、华南理工大学建筑设计研究院首席总建筑师何镜堂:

这个项目区别于国内外既有的海底隧道做法,我们在满足其功能的基础上,更多是从人的体验出发。在造型设计上,西人工岛鲲鹏展翅的造型,如同风筝头,连接着深中大桥,就如同引线拉着风筝在海上飞行,将建筑美学与基础设施本身的功能性需求完美结合在一起。

深中通道S05标段(深中大桥)项目部支部书记沈卫东:

我从事路桥工程41年了。来到深中通道后,我感觉它很特别。它的桩基平均达到130多米,一根塔里就有28根桩基,两边有56根。这座深中大桥有三个世界之最,它是三跨连续,在海上最长,桥面到水面的高度也是目前世界最高;它的锚锭是世上最大的海中锚锭;它的主缆钢丝是2060兆帕,是目前国内最强的中国芯。退休之前能参与这种超级工程,我深感荣幸。大湾区明天会更好!

深中通道西人工岛项目副总经理刘昊槟:

筑岛技术主要有四个方面的创新:首先,人工岛的维护结构。它是在外海软基上建岛,对维护结构要求非常高;其次,是软基处理的综合应用。要结合环保、效率和经济性来考虑软基处理;再次,是岛上隧道在海水环境中的耐久性。这对于控裂要求非常高;最后,是人工岛防台和安全稳定的要求很高,所以我们对岛壁结构做了很多研究。在世界筑岛技术领域,我们都是遥遥领先的。

深中通道管理中心常务副主任范传斌:

作为一名深中通道的建设者,经历了那么多风风雨雨,解决了很多困难,今天能够顺利通过交关验收,我感到非常地骄傲和自豪。深中通道混凝土强度等关键指标的合格率是100%。像沉管隧道创造了毫米级的对接精度,深中大桥主缆架设精度也创造了最高的纪录。在各个建设领域,我们通过设备工艺的研发创新,形成了一整套可借鉴、可复制的经验。

全国工程勘察设计大师、中国交通建设股份有限公司副总工程师、港珠澳大桥总设计师孟凡超:

深中通道是继港珠澳大桥之后又一个世界级跨海通道,它是世界首例双向八车道海底隧道、世界最大跨径离岸海中钢箱梁悬索桥、世界首例水下大型枢纽互通立交工程,在多个领域取得关键技术突破;可以说,深中通道是我国跨海通道集群工程建造技术取得进一步突破的工程案例。
