Spanning approximately 24 kilometers, this cross-sea cluster project integrates a bridge, island, tunnel, and underwater interchange, making it one of the most complex construction endeavors globally. It seamlessly combines these elements to create a marvel of modern engineering.
Pioneering a new paradigm in cross-sea cluster project management, the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge emphasizes industrialized and intelligent construction methods. The project has led to the development of 15 world-first core materials, key technologies, and major national equipment, overcoming numerous technical challenges. It achieved five significant breakthroughs, including the world's first bi-directional eight-lane underwater tunnel, the largest offshore span suspension bridge, and the first underwater interchange. These innovations offer valuable insights and solutions from Guangdong and China for global transportation projects.
World's largest and longest sea passage in the GBA
Situated in the Lingdingyang waters, the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge was constructed under extreme conditions, including high temperatures, humidity, salinity, and frequent typhoons. Despite these challenges, the project boasts the world's largest offshore span suspension bridge, reinforcing China's leading position in offshore large-span suspension bridge construction.
The project also achieved several world-leading technological advancements. It includes the longest and widest underwater immersed steel shell-concrete tube tunnel. For the first time, a new composite structure was proposed for the tunnel, featuring a bi-directional eight-lane standard section and a bi-directional ten-lane widened section. This innovation filled a critical gap in the industry. Additionally, the project introduced a new method for installing the final joint of immersed tube tunnels using a push-in connection technique and revolutionized the installation of ultra-wide variable-width offshore immersed tube tunnels.

1. World's largest span of 1,666 meters for an offshore steel box girder suspension bridge
2. World's largest navigation clearance height of 76.5 meters for an offshore bridge .
3. World's largest offshore suspension bridge anchors with each anchor containing approximately 344,000 cubic meters of concrete.
4. Resistance test with the world's highest wind speed for a suspension bridge: the bridge withstood a maximum vibration test wind speed of 83.7 m/s.
5. World's largest hot-mixed epoxy asphalt paving on a steel bridge deck: the paving covers an area of 378,800 square meters.
Steel shell-concrete immersed tube tunnel engineering
6. World's longest bi-directional eight-lane underwater immersed tube tunnel: the tunnel is 5,035 meters long, consisting of 32 segments and one final joint.
7. World's widest underwater immersed steel shell-concrete tube tunnel: standard segments are 165 meters long, 46 meters wide (widest point 55.6 meters), and 10.6 meters high.
8. World's largest volume of self-compacting concrete poured in a single immersed tube tunnel segment: Each standard segment involved pouring 29,000 cubic meters of concrete, totaling 910,000 cubic meters.
