On June 11th, it was announced at a press conference that the 2024 Guangzhou International Dragon Boat Invitational Tournamentwill be held on June 16th (Sunday) along the Pearl River between the North Gate Plaza of Sun Yat-sen University and Guangzhou Bridge. This year's event will feature 111 dragon boats and nearly 4,000 athletes.

The competition will include 600-meter straight races for 22-person dragon boats, divided into four categories: Men's Open, Women's Open, Men's International, and University. Additionally, there will be a colorful dragon boat contest with on-site scoring, and traditional dragon boats and roaming dragon boats as exhibition events to showcase the unique Lingnan culture. Preliminary and semifinal races will take place from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by the opening ceremony, finals, and award ceremony from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM.

This year's event has received strong support from various sectors of society. A total of 111 dragon boats and nearly 4,000 athletes have registered to participate. In addition to teams from universities and various districts of Guangzhou, there are teams from countries such as the United States, Canada, Malaysia, and Kazakhstan, as well as from regions like Hong Kong and Macao. Additionally, 19 teams from foreign chambers of commerce based in Guangzhou are participating. There are also representative teams from six cities: Foshan, Huizhou, Dongguan, Zhaoqing, Qingyuan, and Longyan.

To help tourists and local residents further understand the Guangzhou International Dragon Boat Invitational Tournament, the first promotional event was held on a university campus. This event allowed students to learn about and experience dragon boat culture, enhancing their appreciation of the unique charm of Lingnan dragon boat traditions. The second promotional event took place in the traditional dragon boat village of Liede, where participants visited the province's first women's dragon boat team, the "Rose Dragon Boat Team," andexpe rienced the distinctive Liede folk culture, including the "Liede Drum" showcased at the Asian Games opening ceremony. The third promotional event was held at Guangzhou Haizhu National Wetland Park, offering citizens and tourists a captivating experience of Cantonese folk culture.

Spectators can watch the races from the south bank of the competition area (near the North Gate of Sun Yat-sen University). According to the Guangzhou Meteorological Service, the weather on race day is expected to be overcast with heavy rain, temperatures ranging from 23°C to 28°C, and an average relative humidity of 83%. The organizing committee advises spectators to bring rain gear and prioritize safety while enjoying the event.

6月11日，记者从广州国际龙舟邀请赛新闻通气会获悉，2024年广州国际龙舟邀请赛将于6月16日（星期日），在中大北门广场至广州大桥之间的珠江河段举办。本届比赛共有111支龙舟，近4000名运动员报名参赛。

据介绍，今年龙舟赛竞赛项目包括22人龙舟600米直道竞速，分设男子公开组、女子公开组、男子国际组、大学生组4个组别；彩龙竞艳，现场评分定名次；传统龙舟和游龙是表演项目，展示独特的岭南传统文化。比赛当天，9时至13时举行预赛、半决赛；14时至16时30分举行启动仪式、决赛及颁奖。

今年的广州国际龙舟邀请赛得到了社会各界的大力支持，共有111支龙舟，近4000名运动员报名参赛。除高校、广州各区参赛队伍外，还有来自美国、加拿大、马来西亚、哈萨克斯坦等国的队伍，香港、澳门特别行政区以及在穗外国商会等19支龙舟队参赛，还有来自佛山、惠州、东莞、肇庆、清远、龙岩等6支城市代表队伍参加。

为了让各地的市民和游客进一步了解广州国际龙舟邀请赛，广州国际龙舟邀请赛首场推广活动走进校园，通过龙舟文化的学习和体验，让学生们更好地了解、感受岭南龙舟文化的独特魅力；第二场推广活动走进龙舟传统名村猎德村，探访省内首支女子龙舟队——“玫瑰龙舟队”和亚运开幕式上亮相的“猎德鼓”，感受别具魅力的猎德民俗文化；第三场推广活动在广州海珠国家湿地公园举行，给市民游客带来一场粤韵悠长的民俗体验。

据透露，比赛当天，比赛河段的南岸（中大北门一侧）设置了观众区，市民游客可以在珠江南岸观看比赛。根据广州市气象局提供的天气预测，比赛当日阴天，有大雨，气温在23摄氏度至28摄氏度之间，平均相对湿度83%。组委会提醒计划到现场观赛的市民游客，观赛时注意避雨，注意安全。
