From midnight on March 1st, the Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin (hereinafter referred to as the "Cooperation Zone") officially started the implementation of segregated management and the closed customs control in the "second-tier" zone.
At the "first-tier" checkpoint of the Hengqin Port, declaration and non-declaration channels were established. Cheng Xi, a Macao resident working in Hengqin was the first to pass through the checkpoint at midnight, bringing salad, barbecued pork, eggs, fruits, and other food items with her. She said, "The declaration was very simple, and the clearance went smoothly. Learning that it is OK to bring pets through the checkpoint, my friends are very excited."
It is reported that the customs has established a convenient channel at the Hengqin Port, conducting exit procedures and security inspection at the same time. In the lanes, the "Guangdong-Macao joint stop" mode allows both inbound and outbound vehicles to queue up just once to pass through the checkpoint, greatly facilitating the travel of Macao residents who work or live in Hengqin.
Regarding inbound luggage and items, a special duty-free policy was implemented at the "first tier".The luggage and items carried by passengers who entered for the first time in 15 days, within a reasonable quantity for personal use, and in compliance with relevant regulations, will be free of tax, except for those that are not exempted from taxes as stipulated by national laws and administrative regulations. Macao residents who study, work, start businesses, or livewithin the Cooperation Zone are also allowed to bring animal and plant products into it, including fresh fruits, vegetables, cooked meats, packaged animal-derived milk and dairy products, cooked eggs and egg products, edible fungi, and various cut flowers.
At the "second-tier" passage of the Hengqin Bridge, vehicles that are not selected for inspection can directlyexit the island, while selected vehicles shall follow the on-site guidance toundergo inspection beforeexiting the island. The on-site process is smooth and orderly.
