During the Lantern Festival, a variety of events including temple fairs, cultural shows, and lantern riddle contests across the globe enabled international audiences and overseas Chinese to immerse themselves in the festive spirit and appreciate traditional Chinese culture.

On February 24th, the Embassy of China in Belgium and the Union of Chinese Associations in Belgium held the Chinese Spring Festival Fair in Antwerp, attracting nearly 2,000 attendees with its festive atmosphere, cultural performances, and experiences like Chinese cuisine, martial arts, traditional Chinese medicine, and Chinese calligraphy.

On February 24th in Colombo, Sri Lanka, a cultural event was held to celebrate the Chinese New Year and Lantern Festival, starting with a suona solo, A Hundred Birds Paying Respect to the Phoenix. Performers from Chongqing, China, displayed Sichuan opera face-changing, folk songs, and folk instrumental ensembles, while Sri Lankan artists contributed traditional songs and dances, all to widespread applause.

In Cape Town, South Africa, the annual Lantern Festival on February 24th was a cultural spectacle, featuring a variety of Chinese cultural and food stalls. Visitors engaged in traditional Chinese arts such as calligraphy, painting, paper-cutting, and tui na (Chinese medical massage) as well as savored authentic street foods like liangpi (cold skin noodles), roujiamo (Chinese hamburger), and hot dry noodles. Performances like dragon and lion dances, Tai Chi and martial arts captivated over 5,000 Belgians and overseas Chinese.

This year, the Import Fair in Brasília, the capital of Brazil, celebrated its first Lantern Festival, featuring vendors in red and a festively decorated market. Dragon and lion dances, along with sword performances, captivated onlookers.

On the evening of February 23rd, the Chinese Cultural Center in Bucharest and the Romania Association Culture and Art Promotions co-hosted their first Lantern Riddle Night, drawing nearly 200 Romanians and overseas Chinese to celebrate together.

The Chinese Embassy in Canada recently hosted a reception for the Chinese New Year and Lantern Festival, featuring performances that highlighted the cultural heritage in China’s Central Plain, including Zhengzhou dough figurines, Zhuxian Town New Year woodblock prints and paper-cutting, as well as traditional music.

A visitor to the reception was struck by the performers' patience and nimbleness in paper-cutting and dough sculpting, noting, "It's uplifting to see the youth revitalizing traditions."
