On January 9th, the Guangzhou Science and Technology Communication Alliance organized a media tour at South China Agricultural University, focusing on the agricultural history of Guangdong.

"Ever wondered why the soil here has a reddish hue? It's because, in the humid and warm climate of South China, organic matter decomposes, while iron, aluminum, and their oxides tend to accumulate." At the South China Agricultural Museum, the guides explaining this phenomenon to visitors are all student volunteers from South China Agricultural University.

The tour covered a wide range of topics, from the agricultural history of Guangdong to traditional farming tools in Lingnan, and from marine life in the South China Sea to various plant and animal specimens. Visitors not only learned about Guangdong's agricultural development but also gained insights into diverse flora and fauna.

The head of South China Agricultural University's science communication base highlighted the infrastructure, open sharing of science communication resources, and annual science communication activities at the base.

The university boasts six science communication bases, including the South China Agricultural Museum, the Insect Science Communication Base, and the Guangdong Ethnic Clothing and Apparel Museum. Visitors can schedule free tours, and in addition to on-site explanations, the guides also share science communication videos online and conduct voluntary science communication in communities.

The representative of the event expressed deep appreciation for the hands-on experience in various science communication activities, emphasizing the importance of making scientific stories engaging to attract a broader audience, especially the younger generation.

The purpose of this event Is to leverage the platform of the alliance in areas such as information dissemination and resource integration. The focus is on extensively promoting the outstanding achievements of science popularization in Guangzhou, with the aim of effectively utilizing and activating the science popularization resources in the city. This will be achieved through organizing alliance members to visit excellent science popularization bases in Guangzhou, actively participating in on-site science communication activities. The goal is to enhance communication and collaboration among alliance members, facilitating the widespread dissemination of excellent science popularization resources and achievements in Guangzhou.

The responsible person from the alliance affirmed their commitment to acting as a link, collaborating with more science communication resources to contribute vitality to the development of science communication in Guangzhou and fostering a positive societal atmosphere that values science and innovation.
