Southbound and northbound travel becomes popular in China during New Year holiday

This New Year's Day, southbound and northbound travelers and young people exploring new local activities are driving the consumption during the holiday.


On January 1st, according to Meituan, a comprehensive life service app in China, the top five cities in terms of consumer scale nationwide are Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou. Also, Harbin, Shenyang Xi'an, and Luoyang continued to be popular destinations, while Jingdezhen and Weihai maintained a relatively high growth rate.

In addition, the online transaction volume of dine-in services in China has increased by over 230% year-on-year, while the order volume for leisure and entertainment activities such as house parties, tea-making around the fire, and Livehouse has increased by 225% year-on-year. Among them, the order volume for Livehouse has increased by 177% year-on-year, while that for tea houses has increased by over 260%. Chengdu, Tianjin, Shanghai, Chongqing, and Xi'an are the top five cities with the highest order volume.

The trend of southbound and northbound travel has become popular among young consumers for holiday travel, and these visitors have created new ways to celebrate the New Year. During the holiday, the three provinces in Northeast China remain the top choice for tourists from the south. Data shows that in the first two days of the holiday, the top three sources of non-local tourists in the Northeast region are Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen, while cities in the South, such as Sanya and Kunming, have become popular destinations for northern tourists to "escape the cold" and celebrate the New Year. Among them, the Northeast bathing centers and Guangdong hot spring resorts have become popular holiday entertainment options for local young people.

Theme parks such as Harbin Ice and Snow World, Shanghai Disneyland, and Universal Beijing Resort are the hottest among young consumers.

In South China, Guangzhou Sunac Snow Park launched a fireworks show to welcome the New Year with the trio of light and shadow, creating a spectacular immersive extravaganza, which brings a record-high number of visitors to the park. Minyue Water Town, Fujian, the New Year's Eve fireworks ceremony also witnessed the historical peak of park attendance, with a year-on-year increase in passenger flow of over 90%.

In Harbin, the Ice and Snow World is undoubtedly the most popular tourist attraction. Apart from the scenic area, southern tourists are also keen to explore the city, such as rushing to buy "battle suits and boots" at the Yibin's Home Clothing Center and exploring local cuisine at the Daoli Vegetable Market. In addition to skiing and bathing, southerners are also impressed by the Northeast's large kang bed. With colorful cotton-padded jackets, young people from the south have found new ways to celebrate the New Year in large kang beds.

Taking photos with local characteristics has also become an attractive way for young consumers. In Saint Sophia Cathedral in Harbin, there are often forty or fifty tourists dressed like Russian princesses taking turns in front of the camera, becoming a beautiful scene during holidays; in Lijiang, Yunnan, various ethnic style photos of Dai, Miao, Hani, and other ethnic groups record immersive new experiences for the travelers; in Xi'an, wearing Hanfu to the Grand Tang Dynasty Ever Bright City has become a new must-do for more and more young tourists.

“南北互跨”成中国元旦假期出行热门趋势

这个元旦,南来北往的游客和探索本地新玩法的年轻人,带动着元旦消费的火热。

记者1月1日从中国生活类综合性服务app美团获悉,上海、北京、成都、深圳、广州消费规模位居全国前五。热门宝藏城市中,哈尔滨、沈阳持续占据热门位置,景德镇、威海保持较高增幅,西安、洛阳等今年热门打卡城市持续火热。

美团数据显示,全国堂食线上交易额同比增长超230%,轰趴、围炉煮茶、Livehouse等休闲玩乐订单量同比增长225%。其中,Livehouse订单量同比增长177%;茶馆订单量同比增长超260%,成都、天津、上海、重庆、西安的订单量位居前五。

“南北互跨”成为了年轻消费者假期出行的热门趋势,远道而来的游客掀起跨年新玩法。元旦假期,东北三省依旧是南方人的旅游“主场”。数据显示,假期前两天,东北区域的TOP3省外客源地分别是:北京、上海和深圳;而在三亚、昆明等南方城市,则成为北方游客“避寒跨年”的热门目的地。其中,东北洗浴中心和广东温泉度假,成为南北两端本地年轻人假期消费的热门选项。

以哈尔滨冰雪大世界、上海迪士尼乐园、北京环球影城等为代表的“主题乐园”最受年轻消费者关注。

在华南,广州融创乐园推出烟花秀迎新年活动,以光影三重奏为核心,打造精彩纷呈的沉浸式光影大赏,入园人次创今年新高;福建闽越水镇的烟花跨年盛典,突破景区历史入园峰值,客流增长同比超90%。

在哈尔滨,冰雪大世界无疑是最热门景区。南方游客在景区之外,也热衷于探索宝藏城市的新鲜玩法——“衣彬之家”服饰城抢购“战服战靴”,“道里菜市场”探索地道美食。除了滑雪和搓澡,南方人还被东北大炕房“征服”,穿花棉袄睡大炕房,南方年轻人找到花样跨年的新方式。

拍各类本地特色写真,也成为宝藏城市吸引年轻消费者的新方式。在哈尔滨索菲亚广场,同时段不乏四五十位“俄罗斯公主”在镜头前轮番登场,成为假日街头一景;在云南丽江,傣族、苗族、哈尼族等各式民族风写真记录下沉浸式新体验;在西安,穿着汉服去大唐不夜城成为越来越多年轻人的新标配。
