"In 2023, numerous overseas students embarked on their first study abroad journeys, navigating a path of self-discovery and growth. Filled with moments of homesickness, this journey proved challenging. During my inaugural venture abroad for studies, the absence of familial companionship left me engulfed in a profound sense of homesickness, . In the quiet of the night, reflections of family and friends frequently infiltrated my dreams. But I did not succumb to intense yearning or the weight of life's pressures. Instead, I turned to a creative outlet - I began writing poetry to articulate my deepest emotions, pouring out every state of mind onto the pages," said Meng Yuchen, studying comparative literature at the University of Edinburgh. "This year exposed me to a broader world.. I experienced the local culture, customs, and independent learning under different teaching models. Living away from family and friends became a journey of self-improvement, honing my living skills.," shared Ying Wansi, now majoring in Statistics, Economics, and Finance at the University of London.

Numerous international students had a rewarding and fulfilling experience in China throughout 2023. Zhang Hao, now studying business Chinese at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, shared, "My 2023 was incredibly enriching. I participated in many activities, including the Chinese College Students Computer Design Competition, the sports center's activity, and representing our school in Chongqing." "In this past year, in the Hostel for international students and in my classes, I forged connections with friends from diverse corners of the world. Notably, I also established meaningful relationships with many local Chinese students. Amidst the vibrant atmosphere of Guangzhou, we explored the city, immersing ourselves in numerous experiences. Now we We've seen, tasted, and tried an array of new things," said Chen Ziyang from Malaysia, now studying history at Sun Yat-sen University.

Queenie Huong Yi Gia from Malaysia, now majoring in Chinese at Sun Yat-sen University, said, "In the coming year, if time permits, I aim to explore more regions of China, such as Beijing's Forbidden City, Hangzhou's West Lake, and Jiangmen's Watchtower. My goal is to delve deeper into local culture and customs. I also look forward to expanding my knowledge and making further strides in my studies at Sun Yat-sen University." Feng Yinyu from Venezuela, now majoring in Business Chinese at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, shared, "In 2024, I look forward to continuing to learn and grow in this diverse cultural environment. My aim is to achieve greater personal and academic progress, laying a strong foundation for my future career!"
