Behind Yangjiang’s Offshore Wind Power Leadership: How a Guangdong Lab Is Tackling Key Challenges
source:羊城晚报-PEARL| 发表时间:2026-10-08 21:59

City Life | Yangjiang’s grid-connected offshore wind power capacity has exceeded 8 million kilowatts, making it the city with the largest installed offshore wind capacity in China. Behind this achievement is the technological support of the Yangjiang Offshore Wind Lab. Focusing on real-world challenges in the offshore wind industry, the lab has developed high-strength grouting materials that outperform imported products, helping create domestic alternatives for key materials. After extensive offshore testing and multiple rounds of optimization, it has also independently mastered core technologies for flexible subsea cable protection systems. Beyond technological breakthroughs, the laboratory has built a bridge between research and engineering applications through training bases, inspection and testing capabilities, and industry-academia-research collaboration platforms. Looking ahead, the lab is exploring deepwater offshore wind development and new opportunities to integrate offshore wind power with other marine industries. These efforts are helping Yangjiang move toward its vision of becoming a “Capital of Green Energy.” #citylife
