The 2026 Guangzhou Animation and Game Expo (CICF × AGF) kicked off in Guangzhou on October 2nd, less than a month after the first batch of "2026 Guangzhou Gaming and Esports Industry Support Projects" was released for public review.

Over the past year, the effects of policy support have been most clearly visible in esports. Previously, the general consensus within the industry was that Guangdong's esports industry had R&D, operations, publishing, and platforms, but lacked tournaments, teams, and venues. Today, however, the Guangdong Esports Super League, which covers five competition regions and 21 cities, brought its regional finals in Guangzhou to the AGF esports stage on October 3rd. The vision outlined in the policy, "integrating esports tournaments into local communities and the commercial and cultural tourism sectors", is being put to the test at CICF × AGF, Guangdong's own expo.
Against the backdrop of regions fiercely competing for the gaming industry, the growth rate of Guangdong's gaming industry has outpaced the national average, with its market share rising back above 80%. According to the 2025 Guangdong Game Industry Development Report released by the Guangdong Entertainment & Game Industry Association, gaming industry revenue in Guangdong reached 283.613 billion yuan in 2025, an 8.90% year-on-year increase. Its share of the national market stood at 80.85%, up from 79.94% in 2024. Meanwhile, the national market generated 350.789 billion yuan, growing by 7.68% during the same period.
In just one year, with 35 projects shortlisted and annual financial support of up to 10 million yuan per company, the industry's achievements can now be experienced firsthand through games playable at the expo. However, whether AGF can truly rival Gamescom cannot be judged solely by the number of games offering their first public hands-on demos at a single expo. Although Guangdong has already made a breakthrough in the number of new games, it still has a long way to go in improving game quality.
