Robot teams safeguard Guangdong from substations to industrial parks

At the 2026 World Robot Conference in Beijing's Yizhuang, humanoid robots, quadruped robots and drones remain major attractions at exhibition booths. But beyond the spotlight, these devices have already penetrated the micro-networks of Guangdong's public service systems, including the power grid, security and logistics.

In the past, inspections, equipment operations and fault detection at substations relied heavily on maintenance personnel working in shifts, resulting in high labor costs, considerable operational risks and limited coverage. In Dongguan, nearly 20 quadruped robot dogs are stationed at unattended substations. Maintenance personnel can issue instructions with a single click from the control center, after which the robot dogs autonomously inspect equipment throughout the station. In more sophisticated operations, humanoid robots can already operate high-voltage cabinets and inspect instruments and meters. Specialized robots have also emerged in marine operations such as submarine cable laying.

In the security sector, robot dogs capable of autonomous patrols have already been deployed on a large scale in public security scenarios, industrial parks, hospitals and schools. Equipped with high-precision sensors and multiple intelligent recognition algorithms, they can autonomously patrol unattended areas. Once an abnormal target is detected, they can promptly issue audio and visual alerts and work with electromagnetic net-capture devices to carry out remote interventions.

Meanwhile, hospitals and communities in several Guangdong cities are expanding the use of delivery robots and disinfection robots, while logistics hubs and ports are exploring automated handling and inspection equipment. These scattered applications point to the same shift: the commercial deployment of robots is expanding from individual production processes into the daily operation of urban public services.
