Shenzhen has long led China in revenue from games going global. A large number of high-quality games developed in the city have made their way to Southeast Asia, Europe, North America and Latin America, creating a complete value chain spanning R&D, publishing, localization and overseas operations. The Three-Year Action Plan for Accelerating the High-Quality Development of Shenzhen's Game Industry (2025–2027), issued in late 2025, aims to build Shenzhen into China's leading city for games going global.
Shenzhen's objective is clear: to bring more high-quality homegrown games to the global stage and strengthen the international influence of Chinese games. A number of flagship games have already delivered impressive results. Following its international release, Tencent's "Delta Force" quickly topped the App Store's free games chart in 169 countries and regions. "Strinova", an original game developed by iDreamSky, has successfully entered markets in North America, Japan and Southeast Asia, carving out a new niche for Chinese games with its distinctive anime-style shooter gameplay. Meanwhile, CMGE has adopted tailored operating strategies for individual markets. Its "Dynasty Warriors: Overlords" broke into the upper ranks of Japan's free games chart after its launch there.

Shenzhen also possesses the esports industry's most upstream "content engine." The city is home to industry leaders including Tencent, iDreamSky, Shenzhen Bingchuan Network, Leiting Games and CMGE, as well as thousands of small and medium-sized innovative studios. Together, they have produced household-name esports IPs such as "Honor of Kings" and "Peacekeeper Elite." On the hardware side, Shenzhen also boasts a large number of leading companies specializing in XR virtual production, high-definition displays and intelligent imaging. Their technologies enable cutting-edge applications such as virtual studios for esports events, immersive livestreaming and digital-human commentary. This has given Shenzhen a rare end-to-end advantage in China that integrates game content, hardware technologies and XR livestreaming, turning esports into not only a competition but also a live showcase of cutting-edge digital technologies.
