On August 5th, the five-day BASF Kids' Lab program kicked off at the Zhanjiang Verbund site. This marks the fourth consecutive year that the program has been held in Zhanjiang, and it is expected to welcome 800 local children aged 6 to 12.

This year's program features two hands-on experiments, "The Magic of Electrolysis" and "The Secrets of Batteries," with each session lasting 45 minutes. During the electrolysis experiment, children observe changes that occur when an aqueous solution is exposed to an electric current, gaining a visual understanding of the principles of electrolysis. In the battery experiment, children select electrode materials and electrolytes to assemble simple batteries and light up bulbs, turning the textbook concept of energy conversion into a hands-on experience. The event also features science exhibition panels that showcase the evolution of batteries and explain the diverse applications of electrolysis in everyday life, including oxygen production and electroplating.

Many children were immersed in the experiments, including Cui Yitong. She remained focused throughout the electrolysis experiment and shared her excitement about the experience, "It was really interesting. I felt very happy after completing the experiment. I have developed a much stronger interest in chemistry, and I think I might want to become a chemist when I grow up."

Since its inception more than two decades ago, BASF Kids' Lab has been a nationwide initiative, reaching cities across China and engaging over 210,000 young people to date.

点亮科学好奇心！巴斯夫“小小化学家”公益科普活动连续四年走进湛江

8月5日，为期五天的巴斯夫“小小化学家”公益科普活动在湛江一体化基地拉开帷幕。这是该活动落地湛江的第四年，预计将接待800名本地6至12岁儿童。

今年活动设置“电解魔法探索”与“电池的奥秘”两项实操实验，每项时长45分钟。在电解实验中，孩子们通过观察水溶液通电后的变化，直观认识电解原理；电池实验则让小朋友亲手搭配电极、电解质，组装简易电池点亮灯泡，把课本里抽象的能量转化知识变成可触摸的体验。现场还布置科普展板，梳理电池发展历程，讲解电解技术在制氧、电镀等生活场景中的广泛应用。

现场不少孩子沉浸在实验操作中，崔艺桐便是其中一员。她全程专注参与电解实验，聊起体验时难掩兴奋：“特别有趣，做完心里特别开心，现在对化学多了很多新兴趣，长大有点想当化学家。”

据了解，“小小化学家”是巴斯夫运营二十余年的全国性公益项目，足迹遍布国内多座城市，累计惠及超21万名青少年。
