On July 8th, the "2026 Global Writers in Guangdong Program", organized by the Guangdong Writers Association, launched its literary field trip in Shenzhen, the APEC host city. Seven writers from APEC member economies, including Indonesia, South Korea, Mexico, Peru, Singapore and Vietnam, arrived in Guangdong to begin a nearly two-month creative field trip.

Shenzhen marked the first stop on their writing journey across Guangdong. For Indonesian writer Saut Situmorang, the city is a vibrant modern metropolis. "Everything here is paid for through mobile apps. Whether shopping, dining at restaurants or traveling around the city, people use their phones to pay. For me, all of this is very new," he said. He added that he was delighted to visit China and looked forward to discovering more stories during the rest of the trip.

"It is difficult to find such a rich and refined variety of cuisine in Mexico," said Mexican writer Manuel Becerra, who was deeply impressed by Guangdong's food culture. From handmade dim sum sold at roadside shops to local specialty snacks, he said, Guangdong cuisine embodies regional culture and wisdom of daily life, inspiring a strong desire to write about it.
