In the first two days of the May Day holiday, the sixth round of the regular season of the 2026 Guangdong City Basketball League (YueBA) tipped off across the province, drawing strong crowds. Matchups including Qingyuan vs. Shantou and Zhuhai vs. Foshan delivered fast-paced, tightly contested action that thrilled both fans and visiting tourists.

An affordable ticket priced at just 8.8 yuan has become a gateway to exploring the cultures of Guangdong's 21 cities, while also serving as a new lever to boost local cultural and tourism consumption. Venues across the province have incorporated distinctive local elements to create diverse sports and cultural experiences. In Zhaoqing, 17 guitarists performed popular songs as fans sang along, while spectators enjoyed local tea oil chicken during the games. In Zhanjiang, regional specialties including lychees and oysters were featured at the venue. In Jieyang, the traditional Yingge Dance made a striking appearance, drawing crowds of out-of-town visitors. In Chaozhou, energetic cheerleading performances with local characteristics and the exchange of gifts between teams helped strengthen ties between competing cities.

"Travel Guangdong with YueBA" is emerging as a new trend. Many fans are extending their trips beyond the games to nearby attractions. For instance, fans from Shaoguan visited Wanlv Lake in Heyuan after attending matches. Local specialties are also gaining wider exposure through the league, including Yunfu chicken soup mix, Jiangmen tangerine peel, Qingyuan black goats, and Shantou fish balls, which are shared between teams and purchased by fans.

During this May Day holiday, events like YueBA, Yue Chao (Guangdong City Football Super League), and Guangdong E-Sports Super League attracted large crowds. The affordable ticket price of 8.8 yuan has encouraged more spectators to enter stadiums, while additional benefits attached to the ticket stubs have expanded their options. Ticket holders can enjoy discounts at tourist attractions, restaurants and hotels. As a result, many trips have evolved from half-day visits centered on a game into two-day, one-night immersive experiences. The excitement on the court continued into the landscapes and cuisines beyond the arena.
