During the May Day holiday, Guangdong has rolled out an innovative congestion-relief package across 24 expressway sections, featuring reversible lanes, reversible tunnels, reversible service areas, and traffic flow management measures.

At around 9:40 a.m. on May 1st, slow-moving traffic was reported between Fengcun Tunnel and Nanmuling Tunnel on the Zhaoqing section of the Erguang Expressway. The reversible lane system was immediately activated. The original three lanes heading toward Guangxi were expanded to five by temporarily borrowing two lanes from the opposite direction, clearing the bottleneck in just about 20 minutes.

Under the system, traffic authorities open a gap in the movable median barrier at the starting point of the reversible lane, guiding vehicles in the first lane toward the first and second lanes of the opposite side. After passing through the reversible section, vehicles are directed back to their original Guangxi-bound carriageway through another median gap. Traffic police guide vehicles at the start of the reversible lane to ensure orderly and smooth passage, with a speed limit of 60 km/h throughout the section.

广东多条高速启用“潮汐车道”，20分钟打通堵点闻

今年“五一”假期，广东在24个高速公路点段创新推行“三潮汐一管控”治堵举措，即潮汐车道、潮汐隧道、潮汐服务区、限流管控。

5月1日上午9时40分许，二广高速肇庆段凤村隧道至南木岭隧道出现缓行，随即启用潮汐车道。原本往广西方向为三车道，通过借用对向两条车道，直接变为五车道，仅用20分钟左右就打通了堵点。

车辆分流后，工作人员会在潮汐车道起点处打开中分带活动护栏缺口，引导广西方向第一车行道车辆绕到对向第一、二车道即潮汐车道，行驶至潮汐车道终点后，再通过中分带缺口让借道车辆驶回广西方向车道。交警会在潮汐车道起点引导，带领借道车辆有序平稳通行，全程限速60公里/小时。
