Exclusive | Malaysian netizen finds lost passport in Shenzhen

On March 25th, Malaysian netizen "Koolah" shared his experience of losing a bag containing his passport in Shenzhen two years ago but successfully recovering it, which sparked heated discussions across the internet. Mr. Gao, whose ancestral home is Huizhou, was back in his hometown to visit relatives with nine family members at that time. Upon arriving in Shenzhen, he accidentally left his bag containing important belongings behind in the rush. Faced with the anxiety and blame from his elder relatives, he hurried back to the airport immediately. Along the way, he was struck by the reassurances he received from complete strangers, who spoke almost in unison: "Take it easy. You won't lose anything in China."

Whether it was a middle-aged taxi driver in his 40s, a young ride-hailing driver in his early 20s, or a traffic police officer handling a sudden fender bender, everyone showed a deeply ingrained sense of trust in society. When the young driver learned about Mr. Gao's trouble, he comforted him firmly: "No one will take it; it must be waiting for you right where you left it." Unfortunately, the driver was involved in a fender bender while hurrying to take Mr. Gao back to the airport. Even so, he took the initiative to negotiate with the traffic police to prioritize sending Mr. Gao to the airport to retrieve his bag first. This kindness beyond his duty and absolute trust in the city's public security warmed Mr. Gao deeply. Only three hours after realizing he had lost his bag, he successfully retrieved it in perfect condition from the airport lost-and-found office.

In an exclusive video interview with Yangcheng Evening News recently, Mr. Gao said that this profound sense of security comes from social cohesion. After his post was published, numerous netizens resonated with him and shared their own stories of recovering lost items in China, ranging from ID cards to umbrellas. All these experiences fully prove the integrity and high efficiency of Chinese society. Mr. Gao noted that what amazes the world about China is not only its skyscrapers and infrastructure, but also this sense of stability and pride deeply rooted in every citizen's heart. As the Qingming Festival approaches, he is once again setting out on a journey to pay respects to his ancestors, with an even stronger sense of trust in the safety of this land.
