"Run freely through the mountains and seas of Huizhou, fully enjoy the culture of Su Dongpo" and "Huizhou isn't in the heavens, you can reach it by going forward." In the morning of December 28, the TCL·2025 Huizhou Marathon started with a gunshot at the Huizhou Stadium. Thirteen thousand runners set off from the Huizhou Stadium, passing a series of landmarks carrying the city's memory such as the Echeng Bridge, West Lake, Hejiang Tower, Shuidong Street, and the Dongpo Ancestral Temple. They used their footsteps to appreciate the ecological beauty of Huizhou's "half city mountain hues, half city lake" and traverse the cultural memories carrying millennia of history.
The participants were full of drive, the spectators cheered enthusiastically, and the event support rolled all out. This race did not only provide a series of heartwarming services but also fully showcased the cultural heritage of Huizhou, this ancient city with a thousand years of history, receiving unanimous praise from many participants.
An important change in this year's course design is that both the marathon and half marathon finish lines are set inside the Huizhou Olympic Sports Center stadium. This makes it currently the only marathon event in the province with its finish line inside a professional stadium. This course not only connects Huizhou's scenic “mountains and seas” but also leads runners through millennia of cultural heritage, passing landmarks like the Echeng Bridge, West Lake, Hejiang Tower, Shuidong Street, and the Dongpo Ancestral Temple.
This year's course design aims to convey to runners Huizhou's urban character of "poetry and vitality coexisting, tradition and modernity blending": Running along the West Lake, one feels the warmth of "Where the heart finds peace, that is home"; traversing Shuidong Street and Hejiang Tower to gain the touches of profound heritage rooted by millennia-old cultural veins. Passing the Echeng Bridge and new urban districts to see the to see the energetic vitality of Huizhou's development. This course is the flows of Huizhou's urban character.
Chen Liqin is this year's women's half marathon champion of the Huizhou Marathon. "I usually run quite reservedly, but the atmosphere today was incredibly strong and infectious. After crossing the finish line, I couldn't help but high-five the spectators around me," said Chen Liqin, a marathon enthusiast from Guangzhou. She told reporters that the scenery along the route was very beautiful, especially Shuidong Street, which retained classical charm while blending in a modern feel, and the Hejiang Tower at the street entrance was also magnificent.
"My impression from the first Huizhou Marathon last year was remarkable , and so I came again this year and brought a few friends along," said Li Sulan from Shenzhen, who couldn't help but praise the Huizhou Marathon after reaching the finish line. She stated that the event committee's support was really upto the need, from course safety to hotel arrangements, all were very thoughtful. "The citizens of Huizhou are also very thoughtful. Many citizens along the route spontaneously cheered for us and set out many tempting snacks. I really wanted to stop and try them, and hope to taste some after the race."
"Competing on home turf, passing familiar landmarks like the Echeng Bridge, Shuidong Street, and Hejiang Tower, felt especially clozy," said Chen Huawei, winner of the Huizhou Marathon men's full marathon, who secured his championship title for two consecutive editions with a time of 2 hours and 18 minutes on home ground. He told reporters that due to physical discomfort, he had thoughts of giving up in the first few kilometers. However, thinking of his wife's support behind him and hearing the cheers of his fellow locals, he gritted his teeth and kept the running on. Unexpectedly, he managed to improve upon his time from the previous Huizhou Marathon.
