From December 9th to 12th, the "OOOUP China-Europe Cup" rope skipping mass event of the 12th National Paralympic Games and the 9th Special Olympics also known as "Paralympic Games“were held in Huizhou. The athletes perfectly interpreted the unique charm and profound connotation of sports for people with disabilities with their superb skills and high enthusiasm and demonstrated the never-give-up fighting spirit of athletes with disabilities.
The jump rope traces an arc in the air as the athletes precisely execute each jump and landing, showcasing not only their extraordinary skills and captivating style but also their focus and dedication to the sport.
"I'm very happy and nervous about participating in the Paralympic Games for the first time," said Zhang Yongjin, an athlete from the Guangdong team, with a shy smile during an interview. He told reporters that rope skipping is a sport that makes him very happy. It not only improves his physical coordination but also enhances his communication skills, making it easier for him to communicate with his teammates.
Competing on home soil, Zhang Yongjin expressed his nervousness but also his strong desire to win a medal, a wish that was finally fulfilled on the third day of competition. "I'm very happy," Zhang Yongjin said. He had some regrets in the previous competitions, but after returning home, he worked hard to adjust his mood and finally, on the morning of the 11th, in the Men's Double Counting Competition in the Intellectual Group, he and his teammate Lin Junyu achieved a score of 85 counts, securing third place in the event.
According to Wu Yijing, an athlete from Sichuan Province, both the gains and losses on the field are part of the charm of sports. When you gain something, you continue to work hard; when you lose something, you learn from the experience. "Overall, rope skipping has brought me both mental and physical changes. I am very grateful to have encountered this sport."
The competition was fierce on the field, but warmth and compassion flowed off the field. Behind the scenes of the National Paralympic Games rope skipping competition, special education coaches have dedicated themselves to building a stage for life for children with disabilities for ten years.
Li Jian, the coach of the Guangdong team's jump rope event, expressed his deep understanding of Zhang Yongjin's special feelings about "competing on home soil." "This is the first time the children have stood on such a large national stage. Everyone is determined to win a gold medal, so nervousness is inevitable. Many haven't fully performed to their usual training level," he admitted. He explained that since receiving the competition assignment in September, the children have been undergoing continuous, closed-door training. Although the training period is less than four months and the team's overall performance are still improving, he is very pleased with the changes in the children: "They've visibly lost weight; some have lost over ten kilograms. More importantly, their spirit is completely different. They walk with their heads held high, radiating energy."
Looking at his teammates encouraging each other on the field, Li Jian's eyes were full of expectations: "This competition is the best growth lesson. I hope to take them to participate in more competitions in the future, accumulate experience, break through their limits, and one day let every child stand on the podium and realize their dream of winning a gold medal."
