On the afternoon of January 4th, local time in Toronto, thunderous applause erupted at Meridian Hall as the final scene of the Shenzhen original dance drama "Wing Chun" came to a close on stage. The performers returned for multiple curtain calls, while the audience waved their phone flashlights in unison, creating a sparkling "river of stars." With this, "Wing Chun" concluded its North American residency on a high note, marking the successful completion of its 300th performance across China and overseas.

"This is truly a remarkable dance drama and an incredible performance," said Pierre Des Marias, Artistic and Executive Director of Danse Danse, a Montreal-based contemporary dance presenter.
From December 16th, 2025, to January 4th, 2026, local time, "Wing Chun" staged 20 performances at Toronto's Meridian Hall, sparking strong local enthusiasm for "Wing Chun." It set a record for the highest number of performances by a Chinese dance drama in a single overseas city and became Shenzhen's first major international cultural exchange event since the launch of the 2026 APEC "China Year."

Bian Zhouzhou, Deputy Consul General of the Chinese Consulate General in Toronto, summarized the North American tour of "Wing Chun" with "three highlights." First, it brought a high-quality production to Toronto, achieving success in both public acclaim and market response. Second, it presented Shenzhen with a strong cultural calling card, demonstrating the city's strength, dynamism, and appeal. Third, it set a positive tone for China-Canada exchanges this year. Looking ahead, more major, positive, and celebratory events are expected between the two countries.
Since its debut in December 2022 at Shenzhen Poly Theater, "Wing Chun" has, for more than three years, operated under a market-oriented model and toured 54 cities and 66 theaters worldwide through commercial performances. From Singapore to London, Paris, Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Toronto, the production has generated enthusiastic responses wherever it has been staged.
