On June 29th, two new metro lines in Guangzhou, the Line 10 and the Line 12, opened services to passengers. On the same day, the symphonic-themed corridor blending Lingnan culture, developed by the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra and Guangzhou Metro, was unveiled at Exit B of Ersha Island Station on Line 12. Meanwhile, the Guangzhou Percussion Ensemble held a music salon at the station, creating a unique fusion of rail traffic and high art.
As an artistic landmark of the new metro lines, Ersha Island Station is deeply infused with musical elements. White piping outlines the rhythm of a musical staff; acoustic panels simulate the sound field of a concert hall; irregularly shaped walls and lighting effects combine to create a strong artistic ambiance. The station echoes nearby cultural icons such as the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra and Xinghai Concert Hall, forming an "art hub" on Line 12. The symphonic-themed corridor at Exit B is especially eye-catching. Through illustrated portraits, 36 renowned Chinese and international musicians, including Xian Xinghai and Ma Sicong, appear across major cultural and tourism landmarks of Guangzhou, showcasing Lingnan folklore and fun facts about classical music, adding a rich artistic touch to the metro space.
To mark the corridor's debut, the Guangzhou Percussion Ensemble delivered a wonderful performance. The setlist featured a wide range of musical styles, including international classics such as "Summer" by Joe Hisaishi and "España" and beloved Chinese pop hits like "Red Sun" and "Boundless Oceans, Vast Skies." The resonant percussion sounds created a magical acoustic effect within the metro station, igniting the enthusiasm of commuters. Many praised the station for transforming into a musical space, allowing passersby to encounter refined art during their daily journeys, which they described as a uniquely romantic expression of Guangzhou. This fusion of art and rail traffic has injected fresh vitality and charm into the city's public space.
