Fancy standing on the western artificial island of the ShenZhong (Shenzhen-Zhongshan) Link, enjoying sea views, watching the bridge at sunset, and letting your children try out science exhibits and simulated driving? That experience will soon become a reality. On June 30th, marking the first anniversary of the link's operation, the Guangdong Communications Group and the Culture, Media, Tourism and Sports Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality signed a strategic cooperation agreement to upgrade the island from a transport hub to a multifunctional landmark.

The ShenZhong Link is the world's first cross-sea project to integrate a bridge, island, tunnel and underwater interchange. Stretching 24 kilometers, it connects Shenzhen, Zhongshan and Guangzhou. Over the past year since its opening, the link has seen an average daily traffic volume of more than 86,000 vehicles and a cumulative total of over 31.5 million. As part of the new partnership, agreements were signed to jointly promote the development of the western artificial island. Guangdong Highway Construction Co., Ltd. signed a strategic agreement with the Shenzhen cultural and tourism department, while Guangshen Industrial Co., Ltd reached an operational cooperation deal with Shezhen Cultural &Tourism Development Co., Ltd.

Covering an area of 137,000 square meters and shaped like a giant Chinese mythical bird, the kunpeng, the western artificial island will feature a science education center developed by Guangdong Communications Group. The 2,200-square-meter base will be themed on "The Development of China's Cross-sea Transportation Engineering Technology." The exhibits will combine the history of bridges and tunnels, transportation development in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and the ShenZhong Link's technical innovations. Visitors will be able to virtually explore the construction process through VR and AR technologies. The base will also include hands-on activities such as interactive drawing and simulated driving, as well as outdoor displays of real engineering components that make history tangible.

The science education center is scheduled to open later this year, with an initial focus on study tours. Visitors will be able to access the island from either Shenzhen or Zhongshan and depart uniformly from Zhongshan. Future tourism projects will leverage existing infrastructure, such as the emergency relief dock and helipad, to explore new offerings like low-altitude sightseeing flights. This collaboration marks a new phase in the island's development as a cultural and tourism destination. It also serves as an innovative practice combining "building up China's strength in transport" and "culture-tourism integration" strategies, offering a development model of "transport + cultural tourism" to the nation.

深中通道西人工岛年内将开放旅游

站在深中通道西人工岛临风观海、看桥赏日，带孩子体验科普与模拟驾驶？这一切即将成真！6月30日，深中通道开通运营一周年之际，广东交通集团与深圳市文化广电旅游体育局达成投资开发战略合作，推动其从“交通枢纽”向“综合地标”升级。

深中通道是全球首例集桥、岛、隧、水下互通的跨海工程，全长24公里连接深中广三地。通车一年来，日均车流超8.6万辆次，总车流突破3150万辆。此次合作中，各方签约推进西人工岛开发：广东省公路建设有限公司与深圳文旅部门签战略协议，广深实业与深圳文旅产业公司达成运营合作。

西人工岛面积13.7万平方米，形如鲲鹏。广东交通集团在此打造粤港澳大湾区跨江通道科普基地，占地2200平方米，以“中国交通跨海工程技术发展”为主题。展项融合桥梁隧道史、湾区交通发展与深中通道创新成果，运用VR、AR等技术，让游客“穿越”建设现场。基地还设置互动绘画、模拟驾驶等趣味环节，户外陈列工程实物构件，实现“历史可触摸”。

科普基地预计年内开放，首期推出研学服务，游客可从深中两地登岛、统一从中山离岛。后续还将依托救援码头、停机坪等，拓展低空观光飞行等文旅项目。此次合作标志着深中通道西人工岛迈向文旅开发新阶段，是“交通强国”与“文旅融合”的创新实践，将为全国提供“交通+文旅”发展样板。
