With 150 million real-time population, how can Guangdong boost consumption?|Vibrant Guangdong

As China's leading economic and most populous province, Guangdong boasts a permanent population of 127 million, forming a massive consumer market. Every day, around 150 million people residing or traveling within the province drive the bidirectional flow of consumption and resources.

Over the past year, Guangdong has led the way in upgrading 10.25 million home appliances and scrapping 454,000 vehicles, boosting investment in industrial equipment renewal by 17.9%, the highest growth in nine years. Additionally, Guangdong has intensified its consumption-stimulating policies, such as the "Taste of Guangzhou" dining vouchers and green and smart home subsidies, while actively expanding the silver economy.

During the Spring Festival, daily traffic on the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge exceeded 19,700 vehicles, while over 3 million vehicles passed through the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link (Shenzhong Link) in its first month of operation. The implementation of the "multiple-entry permits" policy for Hengqin travelers to Macao and over 100,000 new applications for the "Northbound Travel for Hong Kong Vehicles" scheme have propelled the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) into an era of "minute-level" logistics, exponentially accelerating the flow of consumption resources.

Driven by policies and infrastructure, the "Consumption Community of GBA" is rapidly taking shape. Last year, on the opening day of Costco's first South China store in Longhua, Shenzhen, peak-hour shoppers faced a three-hour wait, with 140,000 new memberships registered that day—14% of which (35,000) were from Hong Kong. During China's two sessions, He Chaoqiong, a member of the Standing Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference National Committee and Vice President of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, advocated leveraging a dual-engine strategyby integrating "land, sea, and air transportation + event-driven economy" to accelerate the GBA's development into a world-class bay area and metropolitan cluster.  

The county-level market holds immense potential for brick-and-mortar retail consumption.

At the same time, the "county tourism boom" is gaining traction. During this year's Spring Festival, intangible cultural heritage items such as Yingge dance and Lion danceperformances in Jieyang garnered widespread attention, while Meizhou's Songkou Ancient Town welcomed over 150,000 visitors, a 200% year-on-year increase. Watsons plans to open 500 new stores in China this year, with nearly half of them in third-tier and lower-tier cities to meet the rising demand for quality goods and instant services among county-level consumers. "Lower-tier cities are becoming the new growth engine for premium consumption," noted a company executive.

拥有1.5亿实时“人气”,广东提振消费的答案藏在哪?

作为中国第一经济大省和人口大省,广东1.27亿常住人口构成了超大规模消费市场,每天约1.5亿实时在粤人口推动消费与要素双向流动。  

过去一年,广东率先带动1025万台家电以旧换新、45.4万辆汽车报废更新,带动工业设备更新投资增长17.9%,创9年来新高。此外,广东持续加码促消费政策,如“食在广州”餐饮消费券、绿色智能家居补贴等,并积极拓展银发经济。  

春节期间,港珠澳大桥日均车流突破1.97万车次,深中通道通车首月车流量超300万辆次。横琴赴澳门旅游“一签多行”政策落地,“港车北上”新申请突破10万,粤港澳三地物流进入“分钟级”时代,助推大湾区消费要素流动几何级增长。  

政策和基础设施的双重推动下,“湾区消费共同体”加速形成。去年,Costco华南首店深圳龙华店开业首日客流量高峰期需排队三小时,当天新增会员14万,其中香港会员达3.5万,占比14%。全国政协常委、全国工商联副主席何超琼在全国两会期间呼吁,通过“陆海空立体交通+赛会经济”双引擎,推动大湾区加快建设国际一流湾区和世界级城市群。  

与此同时,“奔县游”热度攀升,今年春节期间揭阳英歌、青狮等非遗项目频频“出圈”,梅州松口古镇游客超15万人次,同比增长200%。屈臣氏计划今年在华新开500家门店,其中近一半布局于三线及以下城市,以满足县域消费者对品质化商品、即时服务的需求。“低线城市正成为品质消费的新增长极。”该企业负责人表示。
