Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong high-speed railway hits record cross-border travel volume during Chinese New Year

During the 2025 Chinese New Year travel rush, the cross-border travel volume on the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong high-speed railway reached nearly 4 million trips, marking a 24% year-on-year increase and setting a new record for the New Year travel rush.

As a major transportation artery in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong high-speed railway operated over 8,400 high-speed train services during the Chinese New Year, closely connecting Hong Kong with 93 major mainland cities, including Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Beijing, Nanchang, and Shanghai. This year, for the first time, high-speed trains from Hong Kong West Kowloon Station were extended to Wuhan, Xi'an, Jieyang, and Shanwei. Additionally, new smart sleeper trains were introduced on routes to Beijing and Shanghai, creating a new cross-regional commuting model of "evening departure, morning arrival".

"Previously, it took 5 hours to return to Chaoyang, but now I can get home in just 2 hours," said Ms. Chen, who was waiting at Shenzhen Futian Railway Station. She noted that with increased train frequencies, cross-border family visits have become as convenient as "dropping by a neighbor's house".

While the rail network expands, service quality continues to improve. To enhance the travel experience for cross-border passengers, Shenzhen North Railway Station and Shenzhen Futian Railway Station upgraded their gate recognition systems, significantly improving the efficiency of verification for exit-entry permits for traveling to and from Hong Kong and Macao.

Data shows that the daily number of cross-city commuters in the Greater Bay Area has exceeded 60,000, with the "1-hour economic and cultural circle" centered around Guangzhou and Shenzhen covering a population of over 2.7 million. The travel time between Shenzhen and Hong Kong has been reduced to just 14 minutes, while the journey between Guangzhou and Hong Kong now takes only 48 minutes. This breakthrough in time and distance is reshaping the work and lifestyle of residents in the Greater Bay Area.

Currently, the Greater Bay Area has formed a "Y-shaped" comprehensive transportation corridor, primarily consisting of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong and Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao routes. During the 2025 Chinese New Year travel rush, the daily number of high-speed train services on the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong line increased by 11.5% year-on-year. This change has made "dual-city living" increasingly common and is gradually turning the concept of "multi-city integration" into reality.

400万人次!广深港高铁春运跨境客流创新高

2025年春运期间广深港高铁跨境客流量近400万人次,同比增长24%,创下历年春运新高。

作为粤港澳大湾区的交通大动脉,广深港高铁春运期间累计开行动车组列车8400余列,将香港与深圳、广州、北京、南昌、上海等内地93个主要城市紧密串联。今年春运,香港西九龙首次开行至武汉、西安、揭阳、汕尾方向动车组列车,新增北京、上海方向高铁智能动卧,形成“夕发朝至”的跨区域通勤新模式。

“以前回潮阳要5小时,现在2小时就能到家。”正在深圳福田站候车的陈女士感慨,随着列车班次加密,跨境探亲变得像“串门”般便利。

路网延伸的同时,服务品质也在持续升级。为进一步提升跨境旅客的出行体验,深圳北站、福田站升级闸机识别系统,使得港澳通行证核验效率大幅提升。

数据显示,大湾区日均跨城通勤人数突破6万人次,以广州、深圳为中心的“1小时经济文化圈”覆盖人口超270万。其中,深港双城开行时间仅14分钟,穗港缩短至48分钟。这种时空距离的突破,正在重塑大湾区居民的工作生活方式。

目前,粤港澳大湾区以广深港、京港澳两大通道为主的“人字形”综合运输大通道已然形成。2025年春运期间,广深港高铁日均开行列数同比增长11.5%,这一变化使得“双城生活”日益成为常态,“多城一体”也逐渐成为现实。
