At the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend the 19th G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro and make a state visit to Brazil from November 17th to 21st. When Speaking with a Yangcheng Evening News reporter, Su Xinxiao, President of the Associacao Geral dos Cantoneses do Brasil, expressed optimism about the opportunities this visit will bring for the Guangdong Chinese community in Brazil. Currently, the association is actively facilitating the establishment of a sister-city relationship between Guangzhou and São Paulo.

Su Xinxiao noted that among the 300,000 overseas Chinese living in Brazil, approximately 150,000 are from Guangdong. As a longstanding and influential organization, the association plays a pivotal role in advancing China-Brazil economic and cultural cooperation. With 2024 marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations, the association has hosted over 20 trade delegations from China, fostering collaboration in industries and cultural exchange. "Brazil is pursuing 'reindustrialization', and China's modernization expertise can complement this effort. There is great potential for cooperation in industrial park development and human resources training," Su said.

The association is equally dedicated to promoting traditional Chinese culture. "One of our signature events is the annual Double Ninth Festival celebration for the elderly," Su shared. "Each year, 300 to 400 overseas Chinese seniors travel from across Brazil to participate, gathering for meals and conversations that recreate a festive, family atmosphere far from home."

The association also has a longstanding partnership with Jinan University, serving as its admissions agency in Brazil for over a decade. Each year, many Chinese Brazilian students enroll at the university through the association's recommendation. The two parties maintain close ties, with professors and scholars from Jinan University frequently visiting Brazil to collaborate with local academic institutions.

Su further revealed that the association is actively working to formalize a sister-city agreement between Guangzhou and São Paulo. "We've already submitted the proposal to São Paulo's city council and hope to finalize it as soon as possible," he said.

Looking ahead, the association plans to continue fostering mutual visits and industrial cooperation between Chinese and Brazilian enterprises. "Whether it's coffee from Jiangmen, lighting fixtures from Zhongshan, or drones from Shenzhen, China has the technology, and Brazil has the market. This complementarity is key to future development," Su emphasized.

巴西广东同乡总会：正推动圣保罗与广州结为“姐妹城市”

应巴西联邦共和国总统卢拉邀请，国家主席习近平将于11月17日至21日赴里约热内卢出席二十国集团领导人第十九次峰会并对巴西进行国事访问。巴西广东同乡总会会长苏新效接受羊城晚报记者采访时表示，这将为在巴广东华人提供更多发展空间。目前，他们正在推动广州市与巴西圣保罗市缔结“姐妹城市”。

苏新效介绍，目前居住在巴西的30万华人华侨中，广东籍占约15万。作为一个历史悠久、规模庞大的组织，总会积极推动中巴经济文化合作。2024年是中巴建交50周年，总会已接待国内20多个经贸代表团，助力两国在产业和文化领域的交流合作。“巴西正推进‘再工业化’，而中国有现代化发展经验。双方优势互补，可在工业园区建设、人力资源培训等方面展开合作。”他说。

总会同时也致力于弘扬中华优秀传统文化。“我们总会的‘金牌’活动之一，就是每一年都会举办大型重阳敬老活动。届时会有300-400名老年人从巴西各地赶来。”苏新效说，华人华侨相聚一堂，吃饭话家常，在异国他乡也能够感受佳节团圆的氛围。

与此同时，暨南大学和总会已有十余年的合作历史，总会是暨南大学在巴西的招生代办处，每年都有许多华裔学子经推荐进入暨南大学学习。暨南大学与总会之间保持着密切的联系，诸多教授学者也会定期前往巴西，和当地学术机构开展交流合作。

此外，苏新效还透露，目前总会正在积极促成广州市和圣保罗市结为“姐妹城市”。“提案我们已经送到巴西圣保罗市市政厅了，希望在最短的时间内把这件事情做好。”

苏新效表示，未来总会将继续推动中巴企业互访，加强产业合作。“不管是江门的咖啡、中山的灯具，还是深圳的无人机，中国有技术，巴西有市场，这种互补性是未来发展的关键。”苏新效表示。
