Bringing a pet cat to an exhibition? Such an avant-garde concept became a reality recently in Shanghai as the"On Top of the Pyramid: The Civilization of the Ancient Egyptian" officially opened to the public at the Shanghai Museum on July 19th, 2024, which will run until August 17th, 2025. This is the largest and highest-level exhibition of ancient Egyptian artifacts ever held, and the first of its kind in Asia. At the same time, tickets for the related "Meow Night" event are also on sale, offering a special"Pet Ticket" that allows visitors to bring their pet cats to the exhibition. This is also a world-first initiative in comprehensive museums.

At 12:00 PM on July 19th, tickets for the Meow Night event went on sale exclusively through Ctrip. Each session can accommodate 2,000 visitors, with 200 "Pet Tickets" available per session, allowing entry for one pet cat per ticket. In ancient Egypt, the cat goddess Bastet was revered as a symbol of protection and spirituality. And such worship of Bastet has transcended time, aligning with the modern affection for pet cats. During the exhibition, visitors can take photos with their pets in the Cat Temple area, and enjoy activities such as "Traveling through Egypt with Pets," "Interactive Cat Paws," and "Cat Paw Messages."

The Shanghai Museum has arranged event insurance for every Meow Night visitor and has invited qualified surgeons to be on-site to handle any potential emergencies. It also offers cat-friendly facilities such as a depository for cats, sedatives for stressed cats, and cat strollers as thoughtful services.

In recent years, the encounter of adorable pets with museums has brought a youthful edge to these seemingly serious institutions. Cats at the Palace Museum and dogs in Dunhuang have become popular internet celebrities. Each cat there has its own name receives regular baths, and is fed by dedicated staff. The "Imperial Cats" in the Palace Museum have constituted a unique sight within the palace walls, becoming a classic subject for countless photography enthusiasts.

At the Guanfu Museum, the "Guanfu Cats" serve as cultural ambassadors, not only helping prevent rodent infestations but also attracting visitors with their charming appearances. While cats at the Chaotian Palace in Nanjing,as popular internet stars, have become subjects of cultural and creative products.

Looking at examples from foreign museums, as April 4th marks World Stray Animals Day, the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Athens, Greece, held a special open event on the nearby Sunday, welcoming visitors to bring their pets for a visit. Many visitors have brought their pet dogs along.
