The grand Foshan Tapo Temple Fair kicked off on the evening of July 11th and will continue until July 17th. The fair features traditional folk activities such as the water fetching ceremony, the washing with the Tapo Temple's water, lighting prayers, fish lantern parades, and intangible cultural heritage experiences. Alongside these traditions, the event also includes trendy attractions like the Foshan ancient town market, Tapo Temple citywalk, and photo walls. This fair represents a cultural celebration that blends tradition with modernity, exploring new ways culture drives urban development.

As the origin site of Foshan City, Tapo witnesses the city's growth, encapsulating the daily lives of generations of Foshan residents and reflecting the unique charm of local traditional culture. Hence, the Tapo Temple Fair is not just a folk culture event but also a window for Foshan people to reconnect with their roots and heritage.

On the evening of July 11th, in the quaint and elegant streets of Tapo Community, Zumiao Subdistrict, Chancheng District, Foshan City, the lights lit up, creating a dazzling scene. Around the Tapo Well in front of the Temple, residents and tourists gathered to wash their hands with water from the Tapo Well, hoping for a smooth and prosperous journey ahead.

Amid the bustling crowd, a loud "fetch water" call came as people used a bamboo tube to draw water from the Tapo Well, pouring it into a bronze chime. Six groups then completed the ceremony in relay, conveying blessings of smooth sailing to the residents and tourists. These groups included successors of Hongsheng Hall, intangible cultural heritage inheritors, and student representatives, embodying the concept of cultural continuity and everlasting heritage.

During the fair, a Lingnan folk market was held in Zhaoxiang Park with a series of performances such as fish lantern parades, Cantonese song performances, special performances by primary and secondary school bands, and K-pop dance shows. There were also various artistic installations and unique stalls offering intangible cultural heritage crafts. The array of cultural creations included woodblock prints, paper cutting, traditional accessories, and face painting.

"The Tapo Temple Fair is wonderful. It brings back the feeling of traditional temple fairs from childhood while incorporating the popular citywalk vibe of today. For local residents, it's a way to reconnect with memories of their living city, and for tourists, it's an opportunity to better understand the city's rich cultural heritage," said Ms. Liu, who visited the Tapo Temple Fair.
