World's 1st China-developed high-level visual system based on gaming engine officially enters commercial use

After receiving the highest-level certification from the Civil Aviation Administration of China, the world's first China-developed high-level visual system based on a gaming engine has officially entered commercial use. This announcement was made at the Civil Aviation Four-Chain Integration Innovation Development Conference and the first Science and Technology Innovation Conference of China Southern Airlines Group held in Zhuhai on April 26th.

Of note, filling a technological gap, this system can ensure more efficient and safer flight training for over 80,000 civil aviation pilots. The release of the system makes China the third country globally to independently develop a complete visual system. It was awarded the first prize of the 2023 Science and Technology Progress Award from the Chinese Society of Aeronautics and Astronautics (CSAA).

According to the joint project team of China Southern Airlines and Tencent, the new generation full-flight simulator visual system jointly developed by the two parties has passed the level D certification of CCAR-60 (China Civil Aviation Regulations Part 60) and has officially begun its commercial journey. Currently, the China-developed visual system has been adapted to mainstream aircraft models such as E190 and A320, and it is expected to support more flight protocols and aircraft models in the future. In addition, it is projected that within a year, the system will be employed in 200 high-precision airports, with 31 already completed.

Han Wensheng, General Manager of China Southern Airlines Group Co., Ltd., stated that the group is working on joint solutions to key issues in the aviation industry, promoting the development of domestically produced full-flight simulators. The visual image engine system developed in collaboration with Tencent has reached an advanced level internationally. With completely independent intellectual property rights, it broke the technological monopoly of companies outside China. The China-developed A320NEO full-flight simulator has passed the level-D evaluation of the Civil Aviation Administration of China. Level D is the highest certification level. 

"Moreover, it can be applied to aviation scenarios such as low-altitude flight, intelligent airport management, general aviation, civil aircraft development, unmanned driving, as well as other industrial fields," said Gao Li, Vice President of Tencent Interactive Entertainment. New technologies emerging from the gaming industry and evolving with it continuously break through existing industry bottlenecks, and they will make possible super digital scenarios.

Yang Lei, Manager of the Science and Innovation Management Department of China Southern Aviation Xiangyi Company, stated that the system has reached the world's advanced level and will have broader application space in fields such as medicine, nuclear power, and emergency rescue in the future.

He further stated that currently, the visual system has achieved over 80% content auto-generation, increasing the efficiency of digital asset generation by ten times compared to existing mainstream products in the market. 

For example, the number of model-generated surfaces has increased by 380 times, presenting the height and texture of global terrains, and supporting the switching and representation of various environments such as dry, humid, dirty marks, and winter snow scenes. It has complete weather, physics, and particle system functions, not only realistically reproducing weathers such as rain, snow, hail, fog visibility, lightning, clouds, and volcanic ash, but also supporting simulations of special events such as bird strikes and explosions.

全球首个基于游戏引擎的自研高等级视景系统正式投入商用

全球首个基于游戏引擎的自研高等级视景系统通过民航局最高等级认证,已正式投入商用。4月26日,在珠海举办的民航四链融合创新发展大会暨南航集团首届科技创新大会上公布了上述消息。

值得关注的是,该系统填补的技术空白,可为超过8万民航飞行员提供更高效、安全的飞行训练,同时也让中国成为全球第三个能自主研发完整视景系统的国家。荣获中国航空学会科技进步奖2023年度一等奖。

南航与腾讯联合项目组介绍,双方共同研发的新一代全动飞行模拟机视景系统,已通过中国民用航空局CCAR-60部(飞行模拟训练设备管理和运行规则)最高等级D级鉴定,并正式开启商业化征程。目前,自研视景已成功适配于E190、A320等主流机型,未来将可支持更多飞行协议和机型。同时,自研视景预计一年内完成200座高精度机场的制作和交付使用,目前已完成其中31座。

中国南方航空集团有限公司总经理韩文胜表示,集团围绕重点航空产业的难题开展联合攻关,推进国产全动飞行模拟机的研发。与腾讯合作开发的视景图像引擎系统已达到国际先进水平,具有完全的自主知识产权,突破了国外企业的技术垄断。自研的A320NEO全动飞行模拟机,顺利通过中国民用航空局的D级鉴定。

“还可应用到低空飞行、机场智能化管理、通用航空、民机研发、无人驾驶等更多航空场景,以及其他工业领域”,腾讯互娱副总裁高莉表示,这些生发于游戏产业并伴随游戏产业不断发展的新技术,不断突破既有产业范畴,成为具备更多可能性的超级数字场景。

南航翔翼公司科创管理部经理杨磊表示,该系统整体已达到世界先进水平,未来将在医疗、核电、应急救援等领域拥有更为广阔的应用空间。

他表示,目前,视景系统已成功实现超80%内容自动生成,数字资产生成效率较市场现有主流产品提升10倍。

例如,模型生成面数提升了380倍,实现了全球地景交界处的高度和纹理融合,支持干、潮、脏迹、冬季雪景等多种材质的切换和表现。它具备完整的天气、物理和粒子系统功能,不仅拟真还原⾬、雪、冰雹、雾效可见性、闪电、云、火山灰等天⽓效果,还支持了“鸟击”、爆炸等特情事件模拟。
